Default What is the secret in Think and Grow Rich

Hi I've read through Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, and I'm not sure what the money making secret is that he tells in every chapter of the book. Any ideas?

here is one answer i've heard of. the secret is
in the statement,

"what the mind can conceive and believe, it can
achieve."

but i don't really know if that this is really
the secret or not.

Networking is the secret. I think people read into his book. He essentially surrounded himself with the right people. He ran all four corners of the box. All angles, and entries. I am 32 now and read his books in highschool. Another book he wrote, which I can not remember the title, said right in the first chapter that was the success secret.

Default One More Quick Thought.......

Greetings Andrew, et al!

After reading this thread last night, I went outside and was admiring my trees in my yard and thought about the metaphor of "Growing" and how in nature, lots of Growth and Abundance occurs before we can see ANYTHING above the ground.

Just because we don't SEE anything, we don't dig up and stop nurturing our "failing tree" because it is NOT failing, it is simply going through the PROCESS of becoming a tree, roots first.

I remember as a child in Science class we grew Sunflowers, mostly because of their rapid growth in the small styfofoam cups that lined the window sills of our classroom with our names emblazoned on the side. The only thing is those speedy growers did not withstand pressure very well.

Growing is a process, a continual result of contineous action, as Gordon so eloquently illustrated in his post. As far as moneymaking goes, Andrew and EVERYONE, I read the growth of a tree to mean that the flourishing comes in time, not overnight. And I only have to look out at my beloved baby palm tree in my back yard (now an adolescent palm tree! lanky like a teen!) to remember that a habit of pruning, trimming, and taking away "deadwood" works wonders for the overall picture.

Contemplative in California,

JULIE JORDAN SCOTT

Default Here Is Hill's Success Formula That Never Fails.

Hi,

Hill's success was a PUBLISHING success.
Hill's success was an INTERVIEWING success.
Hill's success was a success-Story-Telling.

Here is his action-formula that never fails.

1. Choose any number of success models you like:
Hill, Straw, Alexander, Ross, Jesus, Dalai-Lama, Gates...

2. Start asking them the following questions:
a."What are the secrets of YOUR success and success in general?"
b. "Who are YOUR success models?"

4. Take a list from point2b and repeat point1.

My conviction is that the REAL secret behind Hill's success was not a "what" but "who".
I am pretty sure that one of the "models" Hill interviewed was the person who helped Hill with the publishing contract and promotion.

If you know more about HILL's publishing success story, please tell us about the person who helped him.

If YOU follow the Formula, I predict that one of the people you interview will help you and thus become the real secret behind YOUR success.

Default Re: What is the secret in Think and Grow Rich

I had been wondering about the "money making secret", too, when I got my hands on Earl Nightingale's book "Greatest Discovery, The Strangest Secret Revisited".

In it, Nightingale, says on pages 5 and 6:

"My reading and search for the secret of success continued without letup. ..."

"While reading, it dawned on me that I had been reading the same truth over and over again for many years. ..."

"The astonishing truth [is] that WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT. ..."

"Those six simple words, in that order, revolutionized my life. I had found them, clearly spelled out, just as I had so desperately hoped as a child of twelve to find them, not in some hoary, ancient tome, but in a book published in 1937 entitled Think and Grow Rich by a man named Napoleon Hill."

[End of quote]

So, Nightingale's "version" of the secret is WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT. In reading over the "Greatest Discovery" again, I find so many principles spelled out there that originate from Hill that I'd almost call it plagiarism. I must admit, however, that Nightingale is an incomparably better writer than Hill.

So what do you think of WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT?

Cheers,

Wolfgang

Dear Wolfgang,

Yes! And I love that truth: that we become what we think about. It gives us power. Power to control so many aspects of our lives.

The challenge then becomes: will you control your thinking?

Personally, I find that reading inspirational materials daily and praying daily help me to do just that. When I find my thoughts going to things that I don't want in my life, I say, "Cancel" and re-focus.

Thanks for the reminder!

Blessings,

Brenda

Default Re: What is the secret in Think and Grow Rich (Answer: DESIRE)

Nope. The secret that Napoleon Hill wants you to discover in his book is DESIRE.
I first wondered what it was when I read Think & Grow Rich the first time
in 1987. Now it's 2001 and I reread Think and
Grow Rich. Hill says that "the secret" is in the book "no fewer than 100 times." So I realized that it must be on almost every
other page. I started scanning pages and it finally hit me! The secret is "DESIRE." The concept that only when we really, strongly desire something, with "white hot intensity" will we do the things necessary to make it happen. Hill says that we must cultivate a burning desire for what we want to get. Yes, the word DESIRE, or a paragraph about it, does appear at least 100 times in the book.
This, of course, is not "The Strangest Secret", which Earl Nightingale entitled the 6 word phrase he lifted out of "Think and Grow Rich" (The Strangest Secret is "We become what we think about").
