![]() When analyzing website statistics, you may have many gauges to measure activity at your site, including *Hits* and *Pageviews*. The hits at your site will likely be less than your pageviews, since many people will look at the one page they go to first(Home page or other page), read for a few seconds and leave.
My question is : how can you narrow this gap and get people to go to other pages in your site, even if you already have all the navigation buttons on every page and even exact instructions about what everything is about on each page ? I'm guessing if you don't have something *different* on that first page, to keep people interested, you may lose potential clients quickly ? I'm also guessing that the difference between these two measurements (hits & pageviews)could be a warning sign to change your site ? Any opinions or suggestions ? Thank you. |

![]() My understanding is;
A "hit" is when something on a page is activated. For example: If a page has 7 jpgs (photos) a JavaScript and a "WAV" (music) file...then NINE "hits" will be recorded. Whereas when one person clicks onto a web page, that is considered a "Page View" or also known as a "Unique Visitor". Thus...if your counter is counting "hits"...you will DEFINITELY have lots more "hits" than Page Views. ![]() Hi --
Don described the difference between hits and pageviews well. What you need to do is just look at pageviews and use the number as a measure across time. You should be able to calculate the number for individual pages on your site. Many people get confused and just count hits. As Don described that is a false number. If you just report hits all you need to do is double the number of graphics on your page to double your hits. Don also mentioned counters. Many counters have a code built in that only counts you one time in a 30 minute time period regardless of the number of times you stop by. This is to stop you from just refreshing the page to run up the counter. If that's what you want to do just edit the file with that holds the count number! Hope that helps. -- Dan Butler http://www.TheNakedPC.com/ More Computer tips than you can shake a stick at... |
