Help on getting Traffic without $$ ? (Thanks!)

Ok, I have a really "newbie" Q here! lol, I'm NOT a newbie to the internet, BUT...I AM new at having a website to "drive traffic" to!

Can someone help me??? I don't have extra money laying around to pay to put out the ads, SO...I have been doing things like...

- I joined several traffic exchanges (autosurfs) where you add your site into the rotation (but I confess, I sure would like to know of a good MANUAL surf site - one where they don't kick off free members, at that!)

- I'm into Traffic Swarm & Adland Pro & DM's

Anyone have any other free ideas - I could really use the help here!

Phil, I will check out that list! My sponsor has said I should get into the autosurfs more - - do you think that is wise? I know you can really put a lot of time into those things!

Leo, I am into Direct matches & Adland Pro, but it is SO HARD for me to "network" by just talking to those people...maybe I just need to get my feet wet in there, though. Sponsor said to just ask them a Q then reply w/telling them what I'M into...to me, though, it's kinda - again - to just up & say it, like a commercial... So what I ended up doing (& I'm a BIT more comfortable with this) is I just sent out several broadcast msg's saying I think this would compliment your business...some very brief blah blah blah's... then here's the link. They cannot tell that it is going to a bunch of people...they think you just wrote to them only. lol, but do you think this is the best way???

Thanks - I'm so Lost doing this - But I'm sure having FUN!!! (Now if I could just make some money at it! lol!!!!)

Personally I stay far away from those type of business opportunities and marketing methods BUT of course we all Enjoy different business ideas and not Everything is our Cup of Tea.

I'd rather follow Gordon, Don, Skip, Vondre, Jim, Brent, Ankesh and many, many... other Great business idea models!

Hi Bea,

The only people I know who do well with traffic exchange, auto surf and banner exchange programs are the ones who have huge downlines. Or who actually own those websites.

They are not worth it in my opinion.

For a newbie, I would suggest what Bill Myers suggests - work backwords.

1. What product are you selling?
2. How much money do you make per sale?
3. How many sales per week do you need to earn a decent income?

The answer to those questions will give you an idea about how much traffic you need to get to your website - and how much can you spend to generate that traffic.

For generating traffic through networking, do this:

1. Start a blog. Post 1-2 posts every week regulalry. Start finding other blogs on similar topics and exchange links. Ask a few bloggers if they would like to exchange posts (you write a guest post for their blog and they do the same for your blog).

2. Participate on forums. But don't advertise. Simply answer questions that you can and show your blog link in the signature line.

This will be slow in the beginning - but its very good to position you as an expert over the long run.

Other ways of generating traffic:

3. Convert your blog posts into 500-1000 word articles and syndicate them on other websites and newsletters.

4. Send out press releases

These are the free traffic generation techniques that work and work well. Most likely, after using them, you'll have enough money to start generating traffic through quicker but paid methods.

what problem are you solving for them

Blogs, forums, articles and press releases are all great ways to promote your self.......notice I said "yourself" not your opportunity,,,,,

Ankesh has given some great advice, and I would like to elaborate a little on what he already has suggested.

I think forums and blogs are the best way to not only get free traffic, but build credibility.

Here are two suggestions on how to do that effectively.

1. When you post a message, use the signature to get people to sign up for your newsletter or a freebie.

You should set up a page with the soul purpose of getting people to sign up for your newsletter, or freebie. If you have a product you could easily get this newsletter, or free sample of your course.

Use this webpage as your signature for forums. Example: After posting you blog or forum response: Sign up for the 'Newbie Internet Marketer' newsletter and get resell rights to a hot product for FREE! www.blahblahblah.com

Something like that, you get the idea.

The point is to get their name and email so you can contact them later and send them more freebies and eventually sell to them. People dont like blatant advertising, so be geniune (like ankesh has suggested).

2. Use eBay to generate HOT leads, and make a few bucks.

You could easiily write up a few original articles and sell them on ebay for a buck or two. Include resell rights.. set up one or two every day for a week. Don't spend a lot of money on the listing; no more than .45. A good place to list it is Websites For Sale, that's a hot category right now.

The main purpose of this is to see if there is demand for your product, and also to get the email adresses of people that are interested in your product.

You won't generate a lot of leads this way, but it is a good way to build credibility.

Plus, you can use the feedback as testimonials for your product!
