Default How do I create an ezine?

Hi, excuse me but I'm a newbie at the net.
How do I go about creating an ezine? Does it
require special software? How's the best way to
learn about this? Thank you.

To start a ezine you need a list host.
Many webhosts provide you with this
free. Optinlightning.com and getresponse.com
are other easy to use options.

Let's first clarify the purpose(s) of an ezine.

1. To provide valuable content to your readers. Don't *ever* forget this one.

2. Provide a method for you to capture e-mail addresses of prospects. Don't *ever* forget this one.

3. Provide a vehicle for you to sell to your prospects. Don't *ever* forget this one.

Without getting into a bunch of detail, there are obviously variations on the themes above. But they're the basic ones. Now then.

If you think you have an idea and potential subscribers for an ezine, there are some other things you must consider. And none of them have *anything* to do with the technical side of the ezine.

1. Are you committed to providing quality content how ever often you're committed to providing it? If you go on vacation, how will you get the ezine out?

2. Where will you get the material? Will you write it yourself? Will you use other authors? Will you do a combination? FWIW, most readers are looking for fresh content. So many ezines all print the same stuff.

Well, there's plenty more to this whole game but that's enough to get you started. And in case, you're wondering, yes. I used to publish an ezine. *g*

Hi Rachel,

At its simplest, all you need is the following:

1. A wordprocessor capable of producing a plain text file (Notepad will do at a pinch).

2. Bucketloads of enthusiasm.

3. A VERY clear idea of who you are writing to.

4. Lots of ideas for things to write.

5. An internet account with a service provider that isn't going to cut you off the moment your subscriber list starts to grow.

6. An email program. Until you manage to get a huge subscriber list, Outlook Express does the job quite adequately. My own e-zine has over 1600 subscribers and I still - at a pinch - can use Outlook Express.

Your first port of call should be a great web site: www.ezineuniversity.com Take a few hours to study all the material there and you will know as much as anyone.

Then your only problem will be to get subscribers, but that is a whole other matter!

Feel free to take a look at my back issues to see how one e-zine is put together. I don't think there is a typical format - there are as many individual ways to publish as there are publishers.

By the way, a web site is not a core requirement, but it does help.

Good luck,

Martin Avis
