Default An Ohio man who sells to the Amish, found his mail order business skyrocketed after Sept. 11....

Here's an interesting article about an offbeat little business. This man runs a NON-ELECTRICAL hardware store. He set it up to sell things mostly to the neighboring Amish where he lives in central Ohio.

However, he also sells his unusual products by mail order. After September 11, he found demand for his non-electrical products shot up.

The owner, Galen Lehman, says "We sell products that allow people to be self-sufficient."

Some of the products that skyrocketed were oil lamps, water filters and hand pumps, gristmills, butchering supplies and HOW-TO books....

It sounds like many people have been buying "survival" type items in order to be prepared for the worst....

Default This business had closed, but after Sept. 11 demand was so high it was FORCED to re-open....

Most of the news is filled with companies which are going through hard times due to September 11. But I found this article about a business which had closed before Sept. 11, but has been practically been forced to re-open after September 11 due to strong public demand....

The simple business involved is re-soling shoes. It seems one big priority on people's minds is saving money.

It's a fascinating story, showing some of the changes that Sept. 11 has caused to what's in demand....

Default Here's another item which had sales which JUMPED....

This item has jumped in sales after September 11.

At first I couldn't figure out why....

Why would these jump in sales?

The items are BOATS.

It seems the reason could be because of FAMILY.... A boat trip is something the whole family can do together.

An emphasis on family seems to have been another consequence of September 11.... Families have developed closer ties, and are looking for more family-oriented activities they can all do together....

I hope this gives everyone here some ideas!

If you've read Gordon Alexander's "Remote Hypnosis", you know that everyone walks around in a bubble of pre-occupation.... And here are three pre-occupations many people have had after September 11.

Survival, Saving Money, and Spending time with Family....

If you know of any more trends like this, please post them.

Read the article on how boat sales have jumped at the link below....

Default Survival, Saving Money, and Spending time with Family

Survival, Saving Money, and Spending time with Family.....

Thanks Dien, those are really interesting and very insightful answers.

If someone could figure out how to tie those three ideas together into a single product or manual or something.....they may have a niche product that would really go somewhere.

Anya.

Default My Test Re: Survival, Saving Money, and Spending time with Family

I agreed. I tested a client's product about becoming debt-free and saving money - it pulled well during a slow time.
