Default What should this cost me?

Hi everyone...

Thanks for the invite, Rick!

I need to hire someone to convert a Word Document to .pdf. You guessed it... an ebook.

Can anyone tell me a ballpark figure of what it should cost to have this done, or recommend anyone that does this type of work?

If you've had this type of work done, what did it cost you?

Is pricing established by the amount of pages?
If not, what is the basis for setting price?

I've never, up to now, paid anyone to convert Word to .pdf and would appreciate any words of wisdom or guidance that might be floating around!

Thanks!

Linda Caroll

He should be able to really assist you for a little of nothing.

Default Nothing!

If all you need is a straight .pdf file I'll convert it and send it right back to you.

I have Acrobat 4.0 with the upgraded disk which was mailed out a month or two ago.

Default Well hi there Mike! Long time! : ) Re: Nothing!

Hi Mike:

Hmm... is there such a thing as a *not straight* pdf? *grinning*

It's an ebook... and it's not mine.. it's for a client. I need full links and all the other goodies that go along with an "interactive ebook".

If it was for me, I might just take you up on that offer... matter of fact... hmmm... I do have one that I'm working on for myself and never seem to get an opportunity to finish. Might have to send you an email on that one! *g*

Seriously, though, the client wants it fully linked from chapter to chapter, and with links to web resources and the whole kit and caboodle. That's got to be worth some time, you know?
I just need to know a fair price and someone that does good work. You know?

: )

Default As long as I have your attention...

Linda... I just love your new graphic!

In the past I have authored my own web sites. But would like to know about pricing on some graphics.

Comparable to images of an eBook cover standing with shading behind it. Also something similar for a software box.

A few logo's for products and the site would also be needed. I've used Fireworks in the past to create my own banners, etc. I also have Ulead products too.

I've considered using eLance.com as the time draws near too.

But your graphic just draws me in! LOL

I'm a marketer, not a graphic designer and I believe I know my limitations! *g*

Now you know why I'm having Linda do my site redesign. For two samples of what she's done so far for me, take a look at

www.lindacaroll.com/ricksmith1 and
www.lindacaroll.com/ricksmith2

(Can I have my $20.00 now Linda? *g*)

Linda --

Adobe Acrobat 4.0 installs a macro into Microsoft Word. That macro converts all the HTML links and uses the Heading styles (assuming you used them in Word and everyone should) to build the Table of Contents. All of that is automatic so a straight run through Acrobat may do all you want. I believe it pics up cross links in the current document as well.

Hope that helps.

I was going to offer the same thing Mike Rodman did but since you need the links and all that, well, let's just say I better not take on *another* project. *g* To be honest, there are numerous places where you can get a straight conversion done but I don't know of anyone offering a service like what you need. Someone, (Taylor I think), suggested Steve M. and that may be your best bet.
