Default Where can I read about the life of Earl Nightingale

Hello,

I admire Earl Nightingale, the "dean of self-improvement". On trying to find information on his personal life, however, I have been almost entirely unsuccessful; But I feel that this is important for gaining a better understanding of what "made the man tick".

I read most of his books and heard most of his tapes. Only very rarely does he drop the slightest morsel of REAL personal information, such as that he was married three times.

I have also read Diane Nightingale's book "Learning to fly like a nightingale" (Diane must be his third wife), but she seems to black out important information on Earl's personal life before he married her.

Any clues on where I might be able to find something more profound in this area? Perhaps some web links, or obscure books?

Thanks.

Default Earl Nightingale

Did you know that Earl Nightingale was one of the few survivors aboard the USS Arizona when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor?

Yes, I know he was aboard the Arizona during the attack. And that he himself doesn't talk about that either makes me think that perhaps he was just a very private person. Most other so-called public figures would boast a record like that, but Earl Nightingale didn't, so perhaps he was also a person with that rare quality -- humility.

Some information, such as that on the Pearl Harbor incident, is part of Earl's usual brief "official" bio, and can be found in prefaces to his books, tapes, etc., and on several Web sites. See http://www.nightingaleproducts.com/bios.html for an example. But again, you won't find anything really personal. By the way, Earl Nightingale didn't escape the attention of Pearl Harbor movie people, see http://www.behindfilm.com/pearlharbor/story5.html (... major Alan Shapely was helping an exhausted Marine, Earl Nightingale).

Thanks for any further links.

Cheers,
Wolfgang
