![]() Laziness....
Here's a poem I found, written by a Chinese poet who lived over a thousand years ago.... I HAVE got patronage, but am too lazy to use it; I have got land, but am too lazy to farm it. My house leaks; I am too lazy to mend it. My clothes are torn; I am too lazy to darn them. I have got wine, but am too lazy to drink; So it's just the same as if my cellar were empty. I have got a harp, but am too lazy to play; So it's just the same as if it had no strings. My wife tells me there is no more bread in the house; I want to bake, but am too lazy to grind. My friends and relatives write me long letters; I should like to read them, but they're such a bother to open. This is the first part of a poem called "Lazy Man's Song", by Li Po. I'm lazy too, I must admit. I enjoy the TV, I enjoy playing computer games. I love to go to a cafe with a friend or two and talk about interesting stuff. But to succeed, you need to sacrifice something.... You need to use up some of your free time, or use up some of your money (usually a bit of both). Unless you're willing to sacrifice, you can't be a financial success (unless you happen to be born into a wealthy family). Money doesn't grow on ________. You can't get something for ________. Even those who tell you that you can get something for nothing, worked hard to be in the position where they could get something for "nothing"! Robert Kiyosaki likes to bust these myths.... While it's true that you CAN make money from pure investment (for example), you still have to "sacrifice" some of your time to learn how to do it! Li Po (the poet who wrote the poem above) was famous - he became one of China's most famous poets.... But at least he wasn't too lazy to write poetry. :) I think when you keep in mind that you usually have to "sacrifice" something to succeed - it's easier to work hard to achieve what you want! - Dien Rice |

![]() Great post.
I have always felt the one pattern most, if not all, of the most successful people in their respective industries share, is to not allow comlacency to take over. Comfort and complacency are a lazy person's secret weapon. And it shoots the lazy person in the foot. I think what would be interesting to read is a book that explains how to break the complacency streak and how to take the next step to achieving one's dream. Not being lazy or satisfied with one's current position. I would be curious to see who sells this idea alone. Not so much 'how to find success' or 'how to win and influence friends', but "how to break your lifelong laziness and ensure a more enjoyable life" Are such books out? I wonder how this topic would be approached. Ok, rambling over ;) |

![]() You Are Not Lazy Enough To Be Outrageously Successful...
You may not believe a word of what I am saying but here is the secret - laziness is one of the most powerful things in the world. The problem with so many 'lazy' people who get constantly humiliated with this label is ... they are not lazy ENOUGH. Their sin - they are to modest and non pretentious in their laziness and... They fail to APPLY laziness to their business. That's why they 'fulfil' the law 'laziness equals failure'. In the same vain to have a 'foolish' or 'silly' idea is nor enough for achieving success. This idea has to be OUTRAGEOUSLY crazy. There is a stroke of genius (and truth) in this title "The Lazy Man's Guide To Riches". Here is a man who wasn't afraid of PROMOTING his 'handicap'. Just think about it: 1. What is "the art of leverage" but the art of being systematically and controllably lazy? 2. What is "mail order" but the laziness exemplified?. 3. What is the idea of "instant product development" but a veritable laziness? ........... Once you start to look at business activity this way you never turn back. Here is my 'working' definition of laziness: 'the ability/will power NOT to do things that you are not supposed to do anyway/in the first place'. CONSCIOUSLY followed Ignorance is a powerful force too. Only you have to proclaim and promote your quality of being lazy. It's interesting, refreshing, enticing. The moment laziness becomes conscious, cultivated, controlled, exercised, promoted it becomes most productive. To follow Li Po and the taoists: water is lazy and... powerful. Thanks for Li Po - great example (along with Karbo) of how to be productive by consciously exercising laziness. Sorry, I don't have time to TALK about this (I am too lazy to talk, talk, talk..), I'd better go on APPLYING this principle. Simon |

![]() You MUST concentrate on the subject you know best. You cannot be an expert in ALL fields, even though our college/university system tries to make you think you can be.
You MUST have a well rounded education, know how to read, write, and do the math... But unless you intend to specialize in biogenetics, cutting up a frog in high school isn't really going to make you successful. About a month ago I had a choice... I could spend MONTHS learning a new computer language to get a project done I've wanted to do for years... OR I could find someone willing to do that work for me while I concentrated on preparing the marketing materials. In the end, I found two people to do programming for me. One as a partner, and one as a backup contract programmer. Come tomorrow, I am going to see how "lazy" I am when it comes to actually selling our finished product to several prospective clients... |

![]() Reminds me of the saying: if you want to find an easier way of doing something, give it to a lazy person to do. They'll find the method of least effort for maximum result.
I definately count myself in that category of "lazy"! |
