I'm trying to find a message Don posted here a while ago about selling websites by leasing them. I browsed thru the archives unsuccessfully. I wonder if someone could help me find the thread on this topic.

2 Ways To Make SERIOUS Money with Domain Names

Choose a Niche Market (Florists)
Create a Domain Name for that market
(AtlantaFlorists.com or AtlantaFlorist.com)
Create a Website for that Domain Name
and either
1) sell Links on the Site to many who already have a site
example: www.AtlantaFlorists.com (like a Directory of Florists
in Atlanta) Help those with existing sites get more traffic.
(You can get $185 to $295 a year for each Link)
2) sell the site (including the Domain) to ONE business
ex: www.AtlantaFlorist.com (You could get $1000 to $2000
initial and $1000/yr forever as a yearly "hosting fee")

I've done both of the above AND...I just got an email from a guy
who owns a HUGE site called "World Profit".

Dr Jeffrey Lant is now having his team if techies create websites
for Domains and is "selling" (actually renting) the sites INCLUDING
the Domain Names for $2500 first year and $1000 every year
thereafter. And his names are, in MY opinion...crapola.

He has sold about 15 websites the last week at $2500 a whack. Click

I am NOT connected with World Profit in ANY way. Just thought I'd
show you that someone else, besides me, has found a way to do make
money selling websites and Domain Names.

Come up with a GOOD Domain Name for a Niche Market...create a
decent (doesn't have to be great) site for it...then send
postcards to some of those in the Niche saying,

"I've Created a WebSite for YOU! This site is for sale and ready
to move into TODAY! First one who orders it...gets it! Go Up and
Take a Look at www.AtlantaFlorist.com"

This REALLY gets the ol' greed glands workin'. Depending on how
competitive the Niche is...it could take an hour to a couple days
to sell the site.

Give it a try. You COULD have 100 people paying YOU $500 to$1000
a year...forever.

Get your mind OFF the "Internet-Marketing-Home-Business-Wealth-Money".com area!

THIS market has been over-saturated with every kind of cocamamie "technique,
method, domain name, keyword domain, keyword STUFFED domain...etc!

Get your mind into the REAL world of local business people who won't buy the
hype of "Internet Wealth Building Techniques" or any other poppy-**** "money-
making seeker", which includes over 90% of the "Biz-Op" and "Newbie" crowd have
come to look for.

Look for markets of ACTUAL business people looking to seriously make some
money with their websites.

Staying with "photography.com" as an example; It doesn't bother me that someone
else has that name locked up...MORE power to them that they got it before I
did! BUT...does this MINOR item prevent people like ME from pursuing this
"Making Money with Keywords) thing from happening?

No way, Jose!

SO WHAT that that Domain is taken...use a little brain power to say to yourself
..."Hey self! Is their a Domain Name out there that I could lock up that would
HELP photograhers get MORE biz?

Now, granted, I would develope a website for THIS Keyword Domain...and I would
also tell my potential buyers (Leasees. I never "sell" sites but prefer to get
a "Set-Up Fee" and a Monthly amount per year...which, if they pay yearly in
advance for, they can save 1-month payment)
....that THEY would also have to advertise THIS "Keyword Domain" to their
Niche Market.

For example...(Understand, I am NOT charging you a penny to pick-MY-brain...
but I am feeling especially benevolent this eve due to some good fortune coming
my way because of a "good deed" I did a month ago. It's called "What Goes
Around-Comes Around"...or...do UNTO others as YOU would like to did UNTO!)

Watch THIS...see how MY brain works;
Take our present subject of "Photography".
Put YOURSELF into the shoes of someone in YOUR area...looking for a
"Photographer" (Maybe for an upcoming wedding...or a retirement party or bar
mitzfah...business function or whatever)

WHAT are the WORDS they would type into a search engine OR, as is now true in
15% or the "OnLine Searchers"...they are typin what they're looking for
DIRECTLY into the "Location Bar" at the top of their browser...to SAVE TIME!
...and, guess what....they've found that, MOST of the time, by typing into
the Location Bar they CAN find sites that give them the info they want WITHOUT
ALL THE CLICKING HASSLE they have to go thru to get info from their favorite
search engine!!!

Lets say someone in your area wants to find a wedding photographer;
They'd type in the words (either in the Location Bar OR a search engine)...
ROSEBURGPHOTOGRAPHERS.COM...or PHOTOGRAPHERSROSEBURG.COM

Now Ken...IF you are still following me on this...you will see WHAT I have
just done!

YOU...and I can't blame you for it...it was what MOST salespeople I have ever
known made a HUGE mistake doing...which is to THINK TOO BIG, FIRST! You look
for the BIG BONANZA, instead of thinking "let's go small until proven, THEN
we can blast-off and go for the WORLD!" Your "Greed Glands" get a pumping
where you can't think straight.

It never ceased to amaze me as to how salesmen, even after I warned them NOT
TO...would always go out and try and get the LARGEST accounts they could find
....the CHAIN of 200 stores...the guy who owned 7 dealerships...etc....when I
told them specifically NOT TO! I told them to get some confidence built-up in
themselves by getting some individual, small accounts FIRST!

And...sure enough...the ones who went after the BIG accounts (where it would
take MONTHS of contacting and being filtered to office after offce and still
NO deal)...got disenchanted and were forced to leave...whereas the ones who
got first one small account...then another...etc...and AFTER they got some
experience and confidence under their belts...gave the BIG accounts a shot
(part-time because they KNEW WHERE their bread was buttered)....did, in fact,
LAND the BIG accounts.

But they had their PRIORITIES straight.

So...my round about way of giving YOU (and maybe some others) insight into
this "Keyword Domain" discussion is to "take-a-chance"!...(Hey! LIFE is FULL
of chances)...go up to www.000domains.com (The registrants I use) and for
$13.50 (which is good for a year)...register "www.yourtownphotographers.com"

Now...with an HTML Editor (I still use FrontPage98) create a HomePage,
with descriptive boxes next to each...a total of 12 Photos.
maybe a photo of your Town...under "www.yourtownphotographers.com" at the top.

Underneath the Heading place a TABLE with spaces for SIX Columns across and
FOUR Rows down.

Now...in the 1st space (top left of the Table) place the words, "YOUR Photo
Here".
In the box to the right, next to it, put the words, "Brief Description of
your biz HERE".
Doing this you will wind up with 3 Photos across and 4 photos down with

NOW...underneath each Photo type the words, "Click On Photos To Visit WebSites!"

NOW...create a Link off this Home Page that says, "SAMPLE Photographer
WebSite"!...and create a Sample WebSite for a local photographer...which
includes a Home Page with Photographers Photo...some copy using their USP
(Unique-Selling Proposition...WHY people should contact THEM rather than
anyone else)...put in a few links to some of their Sample Photos and....

(THIS is HOW you make money MARKETING)....watch this!

Once you understand the POWER of this (it deals with PURE EGO and CURIOSITY)
.....you can name your ticket!

You send local Photographers a LARGE POSTCARD (8 1/2 X 5 1/2) which says....
"I HAVE CREATED A WEBSITE FOR YOU! It is located on the Internet at:
WWW.YOURTOWNPHOTOGRAPHERS.COM"
...If YOU would like to get more business...please click up there...NOW!

So...guess what happens? They click on. (Those that don't give a hoot about
the Internet or who have all the biz they can handle...may not check it out
...BUT, that is doubtful)
So...overwhelming CURIOSITY will FORCE them to LOOK!

When they do... and they see the "Sample Home Page" you've created for them
where all they have to do is give you copy and a few photos (for which you
can charge $495 set-up and AT LEAST $50/mo or $550 if paid in advance)...for
their Site PLUS...they get a "Photo-Listing" on the MAIN PAGE with a LINK to
their Home Page (which is a subfolder off the main Domain...
www.yourtownphotographers.com/jonesphotography)
AND...(here's where you use the "Law of Scarcity")...you are ONLY ACCEPTING
TWELVE Local Photographers to participate!

Now.....It's getting late and I'm pooped after a day of "Antiquing with my
wife" (We went to the annual Coburg, Oregon Antique Show...where over 300
antique dealers had booths to show an approx 20,000 people)

So...I HOPE...I've given you some insight into "HOW to play this Keyword
Domain Name" thing. Understand...you DON'T have to use "photographers"...you
can use ANY category of biz....to appeal to their GREED GLANDS...AND...
CURIOSITY!...and the LAW of SCARCITY!...to provide a nice income for yourself.

I HOPE this dissertation has helped and I'm sorry I can't take the time now
to answer questions on this or elucidate any further....just KNOW...deep
inside yourself that:
1) There IS a market for "Keyword" Domain Names and
2) YOU...after some study and research CAN put together a "package" that
WILL make money for YOU and HELP those who pay you for this service...a
TOTAL...WIN-WIN deal!
