Default Webmaster CGI Script

I appreciate the help in locating local web portals. I imagine creating one will be a lot of work, but it will take even more work to get adequate exposure. Still, the project seems compelling to me, since it could form the spring board for many other ventures.

One thing I would like to do is find a cgi script that would enable local business people to create and maintain web pages themselves. The script would need to despense passwords for access, or enable me to create passwords for individual pages, and make the creation and revision of simple web pages very easy. Anyone know of such a script?

Jack - I do know of one script :-)) - if you care to check out the link below, it will take you to a demo control panel which allows owners to run their own websites within the mall software - after that, if you like how it feels, please contact me again and I'll give you all the assistance I can to set it up for you.

Best regards,
Margaret

Thank you for responding Margaret. I looked at the script and it seems promising. But $950 is more than I can afford.

Hi, Jack - thanks for getting back to me; looking at the Jersey site, in a way the two scripts are doing different things. Our script allows webmaster/business owners to run their own online presence and promote themselves in their individual ways, as well as having a "front" site where all may (or may not be listed); it also allows people to run their own secure shopping cart/mailing list or simple listings site. It is possible to limit the size of site each business has - by number of pages and the size of the database in the shopping cart. The "mall" owner also has the facility to send billing information to each shop and mail a general mailing to all store owners.

The Jerseybizguide.com site promotes a community of businesses and would seem to be a sophisticated directory system; I didn't surf far through it, so I can't compare the other features. But it would seem to me that they each accomplish different (even though similar) things.

I guess it depends how you see your market developing as to which system would best suit your needs. :-) - it would be nice to think there might be room in your budget for both!

I wish you luck with whichever route you decide to take.

Best

Greetings Jack,

I am the creator of a local portal. Here is one of the main menus:

And here is a demo of the system where businesses can edit their own site:

Having a local portal gives you contact with the residents and businesses that you would not normally get and it does give you other avenues of income.

The system can be set up for city, state, or county.

At the moment, I have 35+ local businesses on the site and the price is going at $199.00 -- soon to be $299.00. Let me know if you are interested after you visit the site and I can then give you more details how the system works.

Rick, for everyone's benefit would you please tell me the name of the script, how much it costs, and where it can be purchased?

Thank You,
Jack

Default Script information

Hi Jack,

The scripts at JerseyBizGuide are part of a complete portal package. The package is intended for those who are serious on starting a income generating local portal in their area without the need of a computer degree. (grin)

The package is affordable but is more than $1000.00 and you appear to be testing the waters with having a local site so here is a low-cost option for you to get started. This system is easy to use and powerful but it will require work from you to set up the way you want.

Netcard your business card on the net

This free Perl script gives your site visitors a free web space without taking up a lot of resources. Your visitors fill out a form and instantly create their static homepages which look like a business card.

Profile manager premium is a commercial version of this script and it has tons of features. The price is $150.00

The company will provide free installation if you do not have experience in that area. Support for this product is extremely good and you can create just about anything with it. And, since you are looking for future ways to generate an income from your portal, this script will give you the flexibility you need to be able to go off in other directions at a moments notice.

Rick thanks for the information about Net Card, and the upgrade script. You seem to be reluctant to name the source of the script you are using on your site. That's your right, of course. It's very true that I am not prepared to pay around $1000 for a cgi (or collection of scripts), but it would be nice to have that information for future reference.

Again, thanks a lot for the information.

Jack,

Have a look at www.snippetmaster.com. I have used this script on one of my clients sites with good results. They have both a free version and a paid version. Let us know what you think.

PS. I am not associated with them I just like thier product.
