![]() Has anyone ever heard of junior billboard advertising? Its a much smaller version of the larger billboards around 72 sq. foot..I was searching on the net the other day, and learned about this..It really got me thinking about doing a venture like this..I would love to have 20 or 30 of those things bringing me monthly ad revenue..Does anyone know or have any experience in billboard advertising..If so your advice, or suggestions on how to get into something like that would be greatly appreciated!!

![]() Jake,
Very first thing I would do before getting too excited, is start checking with your local & state authorities about the laws covering billboards. Many states, counties, cities, have made some pretty drastic changes regarding size, location, etc. The laws here in TN are getting more strict each year, so I'm betting the rest of the country is far ahead of us! Jake....do NOT....I repeat, do NOT....get into this "Outdoor Billboard" thing, whether it's "Junior" or "Senior"....UNLESS....you....are a SUPER DIRECT SALES PERSON with YEARS of experience under your belt!!! WHY? Because this kinda program is for the "PRO's"! When I gave this a try, about 15 yrs ago, I, with ALL kinds of advertising direct sales experience had a "BEAR" of a time. Then...when I got my first Board client...I had to "break my fisterous" in trying to come up with the "right AD" for their business. I went round and round with these people. They could NOT decide "what" they wanted to put on my "6' by 12'" space I had sold them for $360 a month for 3 months. The SAME thing happened with the next 5 advertisers. And...after the initial lease period (mine was for 3 mos or 6 mos at a time) I had a heck of a time trying to "fill the space" with new clients....with the result being my initial advertisers got extra time for freebies. So...I chalked this up to "experience" and put together an "Indoor BillBoard" program that did NOT require much "installation cost". I made up a BillBoard that would mount on the inside walls of Hotel Lobbies for Guests of the Hotel to see and refer to. My initial design was a HIT....and I've now got my "Inside BillBoards" in 5 Towns and many advertising clients paying me a handsome fee every year, not as much as the "OutDoor Boards"....but...not near the "hassle" of the "outdoor" Boards. If you'd like to see a Photo of what my "inside BillBoards" look like....go to, http://www.donalm.com/lobbyboards/index.htm And...if you'd like some details on this program, send me an [email protected] Don Alm |

![]() Hi Jake,
Thanks for asking. I've never done this myself. But its not a bad idea. To me, it seems that the whole business depends on: Location. Get your billboards in good locations and they'll sell themselves. I live in Mumbai. The city is full of tall buildings and skyscrapers. Here is what I know happened in my friends building. Someone approached the building and asked them if they could place a billboard on it. In return, the company would pay their building maintenance costs every month. The residents put the proposal to vote. And it passed because the residents would save money. I have no idea how much the person makes on the billboard every month. But the billboard does change every so often. I think this is a good idea if you are in a good cized city. And if your city has a few advertising agencies. 1. Rent billboard space from other buildings. Or buy space if you can. 2. Lease it out to ad agencies. In smaller towns where there are no ad agencies, you'll most likely have to do the selling of ads yourself too. |
