Default Copy Writing

What is the best way to learn copywriting?

One guru said you should take old ads and write a sequel. I saw him do very well with an ad. He took Joe Karbo’s ad and wrote a great sequel

Another great Guru who is no longer with us said to write old copy with your own handwriting to learn it.

I have seen copies take an old headline and change it: “Do You Make These Mistake in English?”

It works for taxes and Real Estate and other things. “Do you Make These 6 Mistakes in Taxes” of course the body of the text is very different and pertains to taxes or real Estate etc.

Do have any other method for copywriting? Or do you use one of these methods. I like comments on this subject

Default Re: Copy Writing

You are definitely right in that the best way to learn writing copy is by hand-writing out old adverts, preferably profitable ones...

You can find a multitude of copywriting tips at these sites (not exhaustive but just the ones that spring to mind)

www.thegaryhalbertletter.com (FREE)
The late, great, Gary Halbert. This site has about 200 newsletters, each in individual browsers. Make sure you download them all (because you never know when the site might go down) and if you have the time, write out all of the newsletters BY HAND.

www.bencivengabullets.com (FREE)
Gary Bencivenga. He retired a few years ago, but he still produces an e-newsletter.

www.makepeacetotalpackage.com (FREE)
A daily newsletter from Clayton Makepeace, with numerous guest contributors, and also covering all realms of direct marketing

www.copywritersboard.com (FREE)
A forum that is frequented by many well-known copywriters. It even has a critique section where you can get tips form other copywriters on how to improve your ads.

That little lot should keep you busy...
