> What a great board! I'll be spending a lot of time here. I ordered all of Paul G. Thomas' stuff way back when it was available.I have the Psychofeedback tapes, a success programming tape and a tape on increasing sexual pleasure by him, of all things. I always wondered whatever happened to Mr. Thomas. Too bad he wasn't a better marketer. Oh yeah, by the way, I even have a letter he sent, offering to sell tapes to give Psychofeedback seminars on your own.

Default See, some of you thought I was making this stuff up....HA!

Thanks Bruce,

I'm going to quote from Psychofeedback, one of my favorite passages, it is so in synch with what I'm trying to do.

From Chapter 5: Input Equals Output.

"Of course as a concept, positive thinking has been with us for a long time. Two thousand years ago it was said, "As a man thinketh, so he is."

Most self-improvement books, such as Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, or The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, or The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz, stress the importance of thinking the correct thoughts. In fact, "You've got to think positive" has become a cliche of our society.

Yet, with all due respect to the fine authors mentioned above their work does not explain the mechanism involved with the thinking process. Without exception, they urge their readers not to question how thinking positively will help them; the degree of trust which they call for is beyond most people's capacity."

End of quote from Paul G. Thomas' book: PSYCHOFEEDBACK

the degree of trust which they call for is beyond most people's capacity

That is exactly what I've found in 25 years of studying this stuff. Dien and I discussed this when he came to visit.

I (and he as a scientist) could never make the leap of faith these guys want you to take, without knowing WHY it worked.

Now, the SQUARE ONE WORKSHOPS balance that out.

For most people, understanding the Connective Circle of Thoughts/Body is enough. But for those more serious students who want to know even more, we can delve into neurotransmitters, and how to actually speed neural transmission, and increase the action potentials.

We should form a club Bruce.

One point, deeper studies is not necessary for everyone. But accepting the concept of Positive Thinking on blind faith, without knowing WHY it works, has, in my opinion, produced just as much failure as any methodology.

With the Pictogrigm of Life, most people can understand the WHY of positive thinking in less than an hour. Neat, Huh?

Thanks Bruce,

Default Re: Reason Why Thinking

Gordon,

My neighbor has reprinted, in hard copy (paperback), a book called "The Master Key" by Charles F Haanel.

Apart from the usual metaphysical undertones found in the book, and in books like "Riches Within Your Reach", "Think and Grow Rich" etc., this book gives you, the reader, exercises to perform to HELP you achieve the ability of belief.

Exercises to help you gain control of your body and mind and help you gain the ability to focus.

This version/edition of the book (British Empire Edition), written BEFORE "Think and Grow Rich" and not reprinted by anyone else, was apparantly banned by the Catholic Church (reading it I can see why). AND, it delves into the HOW and WHY it works. Backed by scientific reasons.

Originally it was sold as a weekly course in twenty four parts. But in its book form it's all there for you to go through in one hit. Of course, it has the recommendation that you shouldn't go through all 352 pages in one go, but instead go through it a chapter a week. This is so you DO each exercise every day for a week before going on to the next exercise.

It's not full of entrepreneurial examples like my Yellow and Green 1963 copy of "Think and Grow Rich". And my neighbor tells me Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich - The Master Key" is a scaled down rip-off of Charles Haanel's "The Master Key."

Not having read Hill's version I can't say whether that's the case or not. But if Haanel's book came out first you'd at least have to wonder.

While the book (The Master Key) is itself all right, I feel the TIME asked of the reader is something that won't ever be complied with.

Twenty four weeks is a long time to learn a basic skill before being able to apply it fully.

And this is where I see the SQ1 excels. I'd rather spend a few hours on something, and be able to apply it while spending those few hours, than the alternative - read a book in one hit, cause you just know that's what everyone will do anyway, think "how cool" and then be faced with six months of practice-time.

Michael Ross.
