Default Did anyone else notice...

Neither time when Barak Obama took the oath of office did he say United States of America. I always thought we were the USA...translated as United States of America. The way it was said it could be any 'United States' anywhere in the world. What gives?

"Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." "

The "United States" and the "United States of America" are different places/concepts in law. Rather than open that particular can of worms, I'll leave it to you to search for the definitions.

Hi Sandi,

You're quite perceptive!

Like Bozo said, to my understanding the oath Obama took was the standard one that all Presidents take.

Here's a possibly-helpful link...

Just for your info...

Surprisingly, I've come across quite a few who aren't aware that the Swearing in was redone for a second time that evening at the White House...

As I posted in another thread...

Another interesting method of using the term "HOTSHEET" and applying it to those Unlimited niche topics and issues...

So Help Me God
