![]() I discovered this anomaly -- I'm pretty sure the set up is the same, nationwide...
(and yes, it's a low-level, grunt-work, intrusive advertising + promotion method) I call it... the REDBOX MINI-LEDGE METHOD. 1) Go here to find your local redbox locations... http://www.redbox.com/Locations/LocationSearch.aspx 2) -- get heavyweight biz cards or make large promo pieces by making them ***2-UP*** to fit within standard postcard size (each piece is approx 4x3, finished size) 3) -- distribute them locally (by hand) on top of the newly "discovered" REDBOX LEDGE(s) in your area. What is the REDBOX LEDGE, you ask? I've included 2 pix, so you can see for yourself. It's a tiny ledge built into every redbox machine. It's a little shelf, upon which you can put your promo pieces. This is in a place (visually) where EVERYONE who "does business" with the redbox kiosk, MUST, MUST, MUST spend their ENTIRE "visit" staring your promo piece in the face!!! Also, the redbox machines are specifically designed to run with absolute MINIMUM intervention by real humans (maybe 1x per week) -- which means it's unlikely that anyone from the redbox team will show up to spoil your promo piece distribution plans. Note: Littering is bad, hence the need to use heavy card stock to defeat the wind challenge. Enjoy! -- TW PS: See 2 photos below, which will make everything clear. ![]() TW,
As interesting as that sounds, there are multiple problems that make this a working harder, rather than smarter project.
It's not worth the risk, possible violation of the law, and getting the owner of the machine wanting to sue you for vandalizing their machines. I have many friends that are in the vending machine business. Their number 1 complaint, is people putting their material on their machines, trying to capitalize on their efforts. Every one of my friends will tear off the material and contact the state of Florida and turn that person or company in. They also notify the store locations that if they see anyone putting stickers, magnets, flyers & etc... on their machines to notify them immediately. |

![]() Yes -- you're right -- it is "black hat," I guess. Has its risks. And it is working harder, not smarter.
When I'm out + about, I do have a side biz that I do promote via putting cards around, here + there. Only when I have time + it's just a side thing. I saw this little ledge + thought someone might want to try it out -- but I see your point about the legalities of it, etc. Definitely not something you'd want to focus on or depend on. As you say, it could even land someone in some trouble. Most stores don't mind if you put cards on the counter (if there's room, etc.) I suspect some stores just toss them out as soon as you leave. Bulletin boards at laundromats can be good -- some convenience stores too. I've even heard of people offering the SERVICE of posting things on bulletin boards all over town -- so it has become a business (+ art) all its own!!! The redbox thing is more of a corporate animal than mom + pop stores -- so maybe it's a little riskier. Anyhow -- just thought I'd share -- but, yes, I see how one must be cautious -- maybe even err on the side of caution + not try this idea at all! -- TW |

HI Phil, Thank you for the kind words. I am doing well but my wife has been ill for about a year and a half. Right at this time she is VERY ill. She is sleeping more and that does give me a little more time to be on the computer. I have not been doing much for the last year online except keeping my membership sites up-to-date. My main focus had been on her comfort. But I find working does help me cope more with her illness. I have used the doctor visits waiting time to write some new ideas that I would like try online. Of course, once I have tested these programs out and get them on paper (computer), my friends here at SowPub will be the first to hear about them. ![]() Even though I have not been posting much lately I have been stopping in and lurking. I see a lot more activity lately on the forum which is great. A few of the "old" timers have stopped by lately and that is even better to see. Of course I see you are still full of great research links. You have helped me on a number of questions I have had and I always read and follow your links. You are the greatest! Best of success, Skip Rosell Last edited by Skip Rosell : October 3, 2010 at 02:23 PM. |
