Default 10 great food items to stock up on NOW.

The price of many of these items may double in the next few months.

Stock up now. They have long shelf lives and are great for Barter.

Yea, I know the rich "prepardeness" crowd has gold and silver...

And the poor guys have cigarettes and booze...

But for a community, these things trade nicely and serve well:

Sugar.
Flour.
Coffee.
Dry Yeast.
Powered Eggs.
Cocoa.
Rice.
Canned meat and fish. Tuna and Chicken.
Salt.
Baking Powder.

These things are staple items, can be turned into many different foods and meals.

They are good items to buy now, even if the turmoil doesn't come, they can be used and also used for barter.

Gordon Alexander

PS. Yea, I know. The "survivalists" have their guns and ammo. Not into survival, just want to be well stocked if something happens.

Default Linda, I HOPE I'm wrong...and if I am...

Then the worst thing my students will have is:

A LOT of extra money to spend and

Staple FOOD items which will have been acquired at prices below what they might be sold for in a few months.

I see that some CALIF crops are up against frost and freezing warning today. There WILL be floods as usual in the next two months...it is just a question of HOW much crop damage they do.

Linda, you might note my list has a lot of BREAD (both leavened and quick breads) making ingredients. I'm buying a new bread maker (remember when those were HOT items a few years ago?)...

Because BREAD is yummy and can be used for so many things and because it makes a great gift if I'm wrong and my students have too much food on hand...they can gift it.

PS. I've recently baked cupcakes in the FL sun...no special "solar" tools either...just aluminum pan and a "tent" of clear wrap and a few hours of FL sunshine.

sorry Linda, I messed this post up. Your post is below, I was too busy responding to the Don Alm stuff, my apologies.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the list of food items to stock up on.

My local grocery store has Sugar...4 pound bags at 2 for $5 this coming week.

I will try to remember to take advantage of this deal.

Also, from what I've been reading "The wait for $150 oil won't be long." I believe by July of this year (2011) we will see $4.50 for a gallon of gas.

And, what can take the place of oil? Watch for Lithium to increase in price.

Lithium Electric car batteries to power those new electric cars and vans.

My Best 2 U,

LindaC
