![]() Hi Gordon,
You made a great point! When it comes to the body, it is often NOT good to do things to extremes, but instead to keep things in moderation.... Otherwise, of course, you can damage your health.... which is the opposite of your goal.... Excellent point. :) Actually, once upon a time, I used to work out with weights. (I've gotten lazy over the past few years though.) A friend of mine, who was SERIOUSLY into weightlifting told me that you have to take a break every second day, to give your muscles time to recover from their strenuous workout. (This is for weight-based strength exercises, not for aerobic exercise.) This would be an example of needing to moderate things, for the body's own good. I don't know if this is still the advice nowadays, though.... (Taylor? You'd probably know. :) Another example is the problem many have with anorexia and bulimia -- eating disorders.... I saw a documentary about a week ago about Karen Carpenter, the singer. Anorexia is a saddening disease.... So, I agree with you Gordon, when it comes to the body, it's better to do things in moderation, and work your way there gradually.... Otherwise, it could be bad for your health. - Dien |

![]() > Dien,
As with most things in life, infrequent training is not accepted by all the "experts". My personal experience from the past and my recent training has shown that for me, twice a week for weight lifting is the most productive. My body needs time to recover, especially at my age! The link below has many articles on high intensity training along with all the other controversies, such as "is aerobic exercise counterproductive"? Believe me, you can get lost for a looong time with all the articles, links, etc. The basics are from the original writings of the controversial Arthur Jones, (inventor of Nautilus), in the 1970's. The more you delve into his writings, the more fascinating it becomes. Best, Bruce Arnold http://www.cyberpump.com |

![]() Thanks for the link, Bruce. As a middle aged former athlete trying to regain fitness and lose the gut, I'll read all articles with interest.
I'm living proof that injury increases with age, as I'm now recovering from a rotator cuff tear and dislocated pinkie finger due to over working the old bod! I guess I'm not twenty anymore, Toto:-) Bob |
