Default What's the best advice you ever got from Halbert?

Hi,

Obviously, I mean the best technique or philosophy or whatever that you learned or got from reading Halbert's books or newsletters.

Please put it into your own words or quote directly, if you care to post a followup to my question.

The best advice I personally got from Halbert's material is to only sell something that you're *proud* to sell.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Best,

-Boyd

Default These 2 ideas have earned me thousands...

I started getting Gary's newsletter as I recall, in 1985 and that year he introduced me to his "Three-Step" prospecting system which is;

1) Send Postcards to prospects which say..."Free Recorded Message Reveals.......Call xxx-xxxx 24hrs"
2) They call your 2 minute recorded message where you give them reasons why they should leave their Name and Address for more info.
3) You send them your sales letter

And the 2nd idea was a way to sell high-priced programs by....
1) Make a Homemade Video explaining why people should buy your program or product
2) Run ads saying "Free Video Reveals How To....
3) And here's the Kicker; at the bottom of the ad say, "Send a Refundable Deposit of $20. If this is not for you, simply return the video and your $20 will be promptly refunded"

Both ideas are STILL the best ways of marketing most any product or program.

That's a great idea.... I guess by going to a 3-step, rather than the more standard 2-step (or 1-step, selling directly from the ad), you give yourself more of a chance to sell to them....

Thanks, Don!

Default Question for Don:

Don:

From where do you obtain your list of prospects for any given project? Your own in-house list, rent a specialized list for that particular project, or other?

Thanks and thank you for your MANY helpful posts, here and elsewhere.

Default Re: Question for Don:

Nowadays...I get lists for specialized markets from OnLine Directories. US West (our phone co) has a "Yellow-Pages" type directory where they list businesses in Categories.

Or...you may not like what I'm about to tell you BUT...there is software available which will let you "Aim" at a Directory and it will pull out email addys. I then use a "personalized" mail-out program which places people's names in the message so it "Appears" personal...PLUS...I've found that if you did 2 things;
1) Provide a SUBJECT they should be interested in that benefits them
and
2) Offer a SHORT message giving reasons why they should visit your website and have a Link in the message to make it easy to click on.

...doing both of these have NOT gotten me accused of "spamming"...even though it IS "spamming" (just in case though, I use a "throwaway" ISP to send from)
