![]() After 50 years, I embrace the idea of Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, that our behavior is limited by our self image.
AND, I think most of us have a few chinks in our inner armor which prevents us from acting fully toward our success, mostly from outside opinion. Success, as most measure it (or think of it) is elusive to the majority. Why? Because we place so much importance on what others think about us over what we think about ourselves. I'll post some specific examples later, but welcome discussion on the subject. I've seen it most recently in "selling" and in fact, even attempted to set up a way where the idea of "selling" is less important than the idea of helping other people out, HOWEVER I think there was a default switch set-off when people had to go out and approach other people, even with a FREE offer. It appears a built in governor kicked in and most can not overcome their idea of what selling is, and how they perceive salespeople, thus how they think other people perceive them when they are in this selling role... AND it is a governor they can not overcome. So, they hop back on the treadmill of known and comfortable behavior, albeit, behavior which does not produce the results they want. Thoughts? ![]() Agreed- sharing not selling is what gets most people with these self-limiting beliefs over the hump.
It's a numbers game...whether face-to-face, phone, or email...same concept applies. So you need to share your story with as many people as it takes- to find the ones who "get it". Most people give up before getting to the ones who "get it", and "buy what you are selling". Actually- the ones who "get it" end up telling you why it's such a good idea. Getting over that timing hump is critical. |

Some folks are actually Taking ADVANTAGE of The Movie in Everyones Heads. For Example: A few years back I interviewed a waitress who owns her own Restaurant. She bought it with CASH. Cash made from waitressing at a hi end Restaurant in San Francisco. One of her Methods to SKYROCKET her tips is to Manipulate how her Patrons VIEW HER Versus Other waitresses. Most Waitresses or Waiters bring you your menu, drinks, Entre, main meal, and check on you once or twice while you eat. RIGHT? Marcy Manipulates You so You Are AMAZED, Surprised, pleased and Even SHOCKED by her Performance compared to ANY other waitress. Simple really. If all other waitresses visit your table 10 times during a meal. Marcy arranges things so she visits you FIFTY TIMES. At her station BEFORE her shift Marcy lines up her REASONS WHY for visiting your table. Straws, Silverware, Salt pepper ketchup - several brands mustard - several brands Coffee tea - several brands Water - Bottled water - 10 different brands napkins on and on and on AS Your MEAL goes on The Main Topic of Conversation soon Changes to Marcy and the INCREDIBLE job she is doing. Marcy makes 1000's in tips a day The Other Waitresses do NOT. (EDITORS NOTE - A commentary on your point Gordon. Marcy has to require and Fire waitresses at HER OWN RESTAURANT if they DO NOT use her methods. Many Will NOT DO IT Despite personal Training. They are **Extremely Uncomfortable** making so much munny. Some QUIT.
