![]() It turns out that ostriches can provide a number of "solutions" to various problems...
Ostrich oil can be good for the skin, and is used as a skin care product. Ostrich meat is a high protein, iron-rich red meat, which is also low in fat, cholesterol, and calories. But another use for ostriches is for fun - kids love them, and can go on ostrich rides (adults too)! So an ostrich ranch can be a tourism magnet... ![]() Which brings me to the real news - that there is an ostrich ranch for sale! They are actually selling the ostriches and the business operation - but they want to hang on to their land. However, anyone who has rural land could look into this opportunity... The current ranch is in Tehachapi, around 35 miles southeast of Bakersfield, California. You learn something new every day... ![]() "Ostrich ranch for sale" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb5tGUU8FkY Tehachapi ostrich business up for sale http://bakersfieldnow.com/news/local...es-up-for-sale Indian Point Ostrich Ranch (Facebook) https://www.facebook.com/indianpointostrichranch/ Indian Point Ostrich Ranch (website) https://www.indianpointranch.com - Dien

![]() We have a few of these, my fav being Walnut Creek...a great learning experience for the kids.
http://thefarmatwalnutcreek.com/welcome.html Also, the emu is cool. Llamas were a hot biz-op a decade ago, and we have one right down the road a couple of miles. When I was trying out my own Jerky making, I thought Ostrich was one of the better tasting, less chewy meats used. Too much work for me, but I do admire the homesteaders. Gordon PS. I must admit, I don't know much about running a small ranch or farm like that - though my late Dad grew up on a farm, on the outskirts of Coldwater, Michigan... The family farm is now owned by my aunt... However, I do know for some people, running something like an ostrich farm would be a dream come true! I can imagine that, in many ways, it'd be healthier than living in the "big smoke"...! A friend of mine's parents live on a small "hobby farm"... The used to have emus, back when they were "hot". However, the farm was never their main business... It's more of a lifestyle thing... They have chickens, goats, and ponds filled with fish (so they can go fishing whenever they want)... Best wishes, ![]() Dien
