Default Ebook-Cover-Graphics.com sold to Hong Kong company

Ebook-Cover-Graphics.com was sold to a Hong Kong company who has decided to try and resell it for an enormous sum, so....just wanted to drop in and let you all know that I will continue to do business under the main company name of NewVision Graphics. I've expanded services and will now also be doing logo design, more header work, and will, of course, continue to design virtual covers for ebooks, downloadable software, ezines, MP3s, etc.

I wanted to update all of you on the new url, as well as ask if anyone else has suffered a "buy out" of their long held domain name from a foreign company. They purchased it the MOMENT that it expired (I didn't even receive any notices from Register.com).

Our new url is:

http://newvisiongraphics.com

Default Possible business opportunity?

Hi Lori,

Is this what happened?

Did you own Ebook-Cover-Graphics.com , and because it wasn't renewed by the expiry date, you lost it?

I wonder if there's a business opportunity here - reminders of when your domain names need to be renewed, so you don't accidentally lose a precious domain name....

What do you think?

How can you forget to register a domain name? I have 10 and 6 months before they expire every domain registration company in the world emails and/or mails to remind me that it is getting ready to expire and I better sign up with them to keep from losing it.

No, EVERY registrar does NOT send you notice. They are not required to, and many do NOT. Register.com sent me absolutely NO notification whatsoever. Just so you know!

Boyd,

I'm sorry to hear that. Contrary to what some people may believe....registrars are NOT required to inform you that your domain is getting close to expiration, so...we should all take note of that and not rely on them to do so.

Warm regards,
Lori

Default How to get automatic renewal of your domain

Dien, it already exists: if you use http://www.dnbuy.com/ , for only $8.97 a year to register, you also get a free automatic renewal of your domain.

Hope that helps

Sorry, Lori that wasn't my point. What I meant was other registrars contact me trying to get my business when the domain is within 6 months of expiring. Not just my own registrar.

What's interesting is that register.com is one of the most aggressive yet I have never registered a domain with them. Sounds like they need to start looking after their existing customers a little better.

Many registrars already do this automatically. I have several domains registered at 000domains.com. A couple of them were about to expire. They began sending e-mails at 90 days out, then 60, then 30. I think godaddy.com, (where I have other domains registered - it's cheaper and there's no difference in the service), does the same thing.

Did I let my domains expire? Nope. I decided to transfer them to godaddy.com. Cost 15.50 to transfer two domains. Re-registering one at 000domains would have been 13.50. Hmmm. Got 2 done for only 2 bucks more. Service difference? None. There isn't much for them to do most of the time. And the transfer was pretty simple. *Nothing* like the pain NSI made me go through in the past.

I just thought of something else. What I saw on godaddy yesterday indicated that there is a 45 day grace period even *after* the actual expiration date. I'm just a little surprised that Lori's registrar wasn't all over this.

Godaddy had some interesting stuff about Register.com on the godaddy site. Apparently, Register.com has been sending renewal notices to domain owners even when the domain is *months* from expiration. The unsuspecting domain owner then "renews" the domain for $29.95 which is considerably more than most registrars are charging. What actually happens is that the domain is then transferred to Register.com. I think I got some mail pieces from them but I trashed it because I knew they weren't my registrar.
