WARNING: Probable FAKE Paypal scam

I received this email today....

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly
screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed
your account, and we need more information to help us provide
you with secure service. Until we can collect this information,
your access to sensitive account features will be limited. We
apologize for the inconvenience, and we would like to restore
your access as soon as possible.

For more information about the status of your account and for
instructions on how to restore full use of your account,
please log in using the link below:

We encourage you to log in and restore full access as soon as
possible. Should access to your account remain limited for an
extended period of time, it may result in further limitations
on the use of your account or may result in eventual account

This sent alarm-bells ringing in my head.... I'm sure if it was really from Paypal, they would send me to sub-directory of www.paypal.com - not to this new site.

In order to check it out, I went to www.betterwhois.com to find out who owns paypal-ebay.com.... Suffice to say, this was NOT Paypal - so it most likely definitely IS a scam.

If you get this email, ignore it! And if you've gone to the site already and put in your Paypal username and password, then go back to www.paypal.com and immediately change your password. My guess is they probably want your Paypal username and password, so they can then log in and transfer the money out of your account....

(The site seems to be down now, so maybe it's already been caught....)

Where do you report this kind of thing?

I've put the info for paypal-ebay.com below, so you can see it is NOT Paypal, but is most likely a scammer....

Another general Paypal tip which I follow is to never keep too much in your Paypal account.... I always keep it to under $100.

That way, if there ever are problems, you're not too badly off.... It's just a way of protecting yourself!

Once you log into your paypal account make sure you see an "s" after the "http". Other wise it's not a secure & official paypal site.

Also for all you ebay'ers both sellers and buy'ers beware. Several of my auction bidders got an e-mail notification from someone claiming to be me (the seller) and asking for payment by paypal to be sent to a non verified e-mail account.

The phoney request went out before the official paypal notifications and 3 out of 7 of my dutch buy'ers on one auction sent payment to the con artist.

I ate the losses and sent my Pet Photography manuals out to those bidders at my expense.

If you are doing dutch auctions like me you may want to send payment instructions out to your bidders before your auction ends so you and them don't get ripped off.
