![]() Hey, guys...
I'm developing a comprehensive marketing course for web designers which shows them how to sell their web design services and make more money with their skills. For those of you who are members of this niche, I was wondering if you could let me know where you think the best sites to promote such a product would be? Where do most web designers go, online, to chat about the industry? I have my own growing list, but I know there's probably a lot that I'm unaware of. Thanks, Adam. |

![]() Usenet is the fastest way to lose your host, and/or your ISP connection.
Yeah, all those folks are there, congregating to talk about their particular interests. Get it? "Their Particular Interests!" If you go that route, join the group, ask for the FAQ, and participate according to the guidelines they've established. You can include a 3 or 4 line signature file if you want. (Check the FAQ, first.) Anything else will get you reported by more people than you ever suspected. I know. I'm one of the ones who'll spend copious amounts of time finding you and making sure your ISP, his carrier, your ISP's carrier's carrier, any and everybody who has anything to do with your connection is notified that you are using the group to promote your products. Like forums on the web, the best way to sell to the participants is to be a participant who helps, and who just mentions (in the manner accepted) his products. Many of the groups that I visit regularly have gone "totally private" in order that we may continue our interactions unfettered with the need to make the point about ads being unwelcome over and over again. We run our own usenet servers, and only group members who abide by our terms of participation are welcome. And since it's private, password protected, and intimate, we find out who is doing what among the participants, and go to those people when it's time to whip out the old credit card. Done properly, you can build a loyal following of customers . . . Marye |

![]() Hi Marye,
> Like forums on the web, the best way to sell > to the participants is to be a participant > who helps, and who just mentions (in the > manner accepted) his products. Adam knows this. That is why he asked, "Where do most web designers go, online, to chat about the industry?" Blatent Advertising in these special groups isn't permitted, but it is acceptable to leave a signature file: 4-6 lines. Best Regards, Steve MacLellan homebusiness-websites.com |

![]() First, let me thank you for your replies.
Continuing... as a business person looking to make: 1. A healthy stream of income from this project and 2. Requiring cash flow systems that can be automated as much as possible... ... it's unrealistic to base the marketing of a venture around your sig. file or consistent participation in a discussion group. I need to find places that will run ads or promote joint ventured products, so that the "pull" mechanism sits in place and funnels clients, automatically. Any other way is just a round-about way of forcing you back into having another J.O.B. My .02, anyway. Thanks, Adam. Learn How To Grow Your Martial Arts Academy For Less Than $100. |

If you want to get my attention then you have to go where I go. The USENET is the place serious developers hang out, and I wouldn't mind sharing a list of my favorite groups with you, but if this isn't an option for you it wouldn't be of any benefit. On the web there are very few places I frequent. Most of my knowledge has either come from the row of programming books I have bought, or the Usenet. On the web the main place I visit is the W3C.org; sometimes Sitepoint.com and once in a while Builder.com. Other ways you might catch my attention is to have a look at coming trends in the field of development. What's hot, and relatively still new that would have a lot of developers thinking about? It isn't secret that before I buy a programming book, I will do some research on the topic to see what is available on the web. I'm sure you have heard of Microsoft's planned release of the Windows .Net Server 2003 operating system. Is it HOT? Nope -- it's cold. While there will be millions learning to develop on this platform, you would likely miss your target market by advertising to this crowd. At a debate at the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, where a panel of developers and technology experts faced off over Microsoft's emerging Web-based development platform they argued the most prominent complaints raised during the debate took issue with the fact that Web-based applications built using .Net developer tools are only designed to run on Microsoft servers. The software maker has positioned Windows as the only server operating system suitable for hosting .Net applications. The crowd that will be developing on this platform will be the BIG development companies that can afford to pay people to learn the technology, and likely have their own in house advertising agency. So you might want to choose sites that offer more neutral information such as XML, XLST, and integration with data binding applications which will be the framework for sophisticated applications relative to how information is gathered, processed and deployed for next generation ecommerce applications. Find the industry leaders who are publishing tons of information on the web on these types of topics, and see what kind of arrangements you can make for advertising and/or joint ventures with them. Developers, like me, are watching sites like this that will have an impact on the future of web development. Best Regards, Steve MacLellan homebusiness-websites.com |
