Default The beginning of memo #5

I had written this...

DATE: February 18, 2003

MEMO TO: Pat Medrano

FROM: Erik Lukas and Will Hurley

SUBJECT: Termination of Employees Presentation

(and had approximately 3-5 pages to go writing a summary of our presentation on terminating employees)

Question: Can we ever role play and not have it be about giving a presentation to a group of managers?

It was at the point that I read the start of memo #5 that I remembered why I HAD to take action NOW.

HAD to.

Why I had to start doing things I wanted to pursue.

(I am reminded by more serious reasons everyday, but these minor annoyances also add weight.)

I read Stealth Marketing by Jay Abraham today. I think I may have gotten a bit more practical info from it than from slamming my head against the wall writing this memo (which I have only just started).

I just put this out to rant, I suppose... and procrastinate, lest I hurt someone.

Success,

Erik

Erik,

I have a son who just turned 19 in January.

He started college last fall with a full academic
scholarship. His total expenses were estimated
to be less than $500 per semester for books
and incidentals.

He had it made including room and board.
All he had to do was go to class and study;
he did have to work 10 hours a week in the
computer lab to help defray some of his
expenses.

He could have completed 4 years of college debt-free.
No student loans to pay back--no nothing.

He quit school. Didn't even finish his finals for
the first semester. He probably has lost the scholarship.

Now he's working in a factory, getting his hands
dirty building transmissions for lawn tractors.

Did he make a mistake? Don't know. College for
him was not the thing for now. Will he ever go back?
I doubt it. He's working, buying a house, and
he's madly in love.

So Erik, redeem the time. While you are in school,
make the most of it. Cultivate your web business
in your spare time. Maybe you can have the best
of both worlds.

Maybe not. Lee Benson (Amazing Ezine Tactics)
dropped out of college to build his own way on
the net. Not that you should quit school, but
just don't waste any time goofing off.

The other day I was reading Gary North's Reality
Check newsletter. He was upset about what is
going on in our colleges and universities today.
How the liberal agenda is destroying the youth
of today. If I remember correctly, he said more
than 50% of the students never finish school and
get a degree.

The older I get (I'll be 53 this Saturday),
the more questions I ask. Society often sets
standards that make no sense. But unfortunately,
those in power decide what the standards are and
they enforce them.

They may enforce them through economic sanctions
(you don't get the job without a sheepskin); or
through a police state using civil laws and
regulations.

So you have to play the game their way if you
play in their playground. You can take your
marbles and go home if you want...at least until
they decide they want your marbles, too.

Erik, I believe you have what it takes to be
anything you decide to be. You can do whatever
you make up your mind to do. I really believe
that about you, Erik.

Decide what it is you really want. Write it down
on paper. Do something everyday toward your
desired goal. Step by step, it will happen.

Keep the faith.

Be blessed,

JDB
