Default Back in the 1950s, the THING to have was a "hot rod"... Now, in the 21st century...

In the 1950s, anyone who was anyone had a "hot rod".... Something like this...

But now, in the 21st century... hey, "hot rods" are passe... Been there, done that. We need something new... So this is what those who are "hot" ARE doing...

The NEW "hot rod" of the 21st century -

This is known as "case modding"!

I was at a party last night - it was a "Ph.D. burning party" (that's a whole other story) - and I was talking with a bunch of computer tech types. They told me that this was the "in hobby" of many computer tech types....

Usually, you don't give your computer case a second thought! But - if you're really "into" computers - then this is what you do!

Well, there's a few! Interesting hobby.... :)

You can see more examples at http://www.ocmodshop.com/gallery.aspx?fc=1

Hmm... There's always something interesting going on somewhere... :)

Default Guess what? This one's even more odd !

Hi Erik,

Glad you liked it! I found it quite entertaining myself.... :)

By the way, I found an even stranger one. This guy has a computer tower - the lower half is his computer, the upper half is a fish tank....

The top slides open so he can feed the fish... (Click on the picture above for more info.)

Yeah, I know this is a silly topic which doesn't seem to have much to do with business.... But hey, that never stopped us here before. ;)

Cheers,

Dien

Hi Rooster,

I don't know what it is... What is it? I'm sure you know, being the knowledgeable car expert on these biz forums.... :)

Default Hey, Would that be the...

new PC water cooling system, or the latest version of fish tank heater?

I hope those are tropical fish that love warm water.

Brings new meaning to the phrase "What'll they think of next?" LOL

I wouldn't mind having a faster digital 'rod, but if I had a choice I'd rather have back my '68 Charger R/T 375hp 440 Magnum or my '68 Firebird 400.(gone now, like my Pentons & KTMs)

Much more adrenalin than a "magnum" processor. :-)

My son wants to sell his KX125 to build a new PC. Seems he has "filled up" his custom built, "magnum" Alienware PC, and feels the "need for speed".

Different than the need for speed of the real hot rod generation.

I plan to have him watch American Graffiti, just for kicks.

I guess the world will never be the same.

Me, I'll take 400+hp/500ftlbs ground-pounding torque anyday, instead of quadzion gigs of whatever.

Ah, I miss the smell of burnt rubber in the moonlight and the view of the other guy's headlights fading in the mirror as I catch the next gear....:-))))

Better quit before I get too much adrenalin to sleep.

Default My First Car....

A 1940 Plymouth Club Coupe...(Although mine wasn't as pretty as this one...I called my car the "rabbit cage" because it had a piece of hardware cloth for a grille)...Ah those were the days!...

Hey, Dien...

Where are the three old guys with waist-length beards, cheap sunglasses and trenchcoats in that picture?

You can't own a car like that without a little ZZ Top.

Default Niche Marketing Opportunity

Hi Dien,
If this is a "hot" past-time as you say, then it's a real business opportunity just waiting for a smart marketer/entrepreneur to exploit.

How hard is it to put together a JV proposal and contact each of these guys? Each photo has an accompanying website, and which in turn has a contact email address.

These techie people are just that...techies. Most know beans about marketing. This is where you come in. Put together a program where you create a win-win situation.

They build 'em, and you market 'em.

"The Custom Case Modding Shop."

URL: casemodding.com

If this catches on (as I'm sure it will, I've also seen articles and photos of this elsewhere), then there's definitely serious money to be made.

God bless.

Hey Dave,

American Graffiti is good. And I like "boss" cars too.

In fact, I just finished up an ebay auction for my other kidney. And my next shipment of speed products should be arriving from Jeg's via UPS tomorrow. What's a hot rod without headers?

"Better quit before I get too much adrenalin to sleep"

I've had that problem lately.

Hair slicked back, tooling in the garage, with a pack of Pall Malls rolled up in the sleeve of my white tee,

Erik

P.S. The Charger sounds fun.
