Default A New Giant-Killing Seach Engine Is Threatening Google!

There's a new search engine on the block...

Unlike other new search engine, this "new kid on the block" was developed by some of the people who helped to develop Google!

They left the fold... And now are competing with the Google giant!

The new search engine is Cuil ... http://www.cuil.com

"Cuil" is pronounced like "Cool". I tried it out - it looks promising!

It has a totally different look than Google - results include longer pieces of texts, usually have a picture, and are arranged in columns...

The search engine algorithm is completely different too. That's just a fancy way of saying that the results you get when you do a search are completely different from what you get with Google...!

Cuil also boasts the largest database of any search engine (including Google) - with 120 billiion web pages!

I must say, I've been a bit "dissatisfied" with Google in recent years... I feel their results are less relevant than they used to be. And sometimes useful pages just drop out of Google, for apparently no reason... I don't know if Cuil will be better, but I think more competition is a good thing!

Check it out!

Also, here's an article about it (which is where I read of it)...
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/28/te...l?ref=business

Let the battle begin!

Cheers,

Dien

Umm - I read that Google recently passed the 1 trillion web pages mark...

But Cuil.com is really cool. A lot better interface than Google.

It seems better than Google for very popular keywords like "marketing". But I think it has a bit of catching up to do (relevancy wise) for long tail keywords.

And also - it seems like they count every web page as its own entity. Search for "sowpub" and you'll see that 9 out of 10 search results are from sowpub.com on cuil - but only 2 out of 10 are from sowpub.com on Google.

I think Google is better by not showing a lot of web pages from the same domain. Because people can always search for pages on a particular domain if they want to.

But I don't think the search engine battle will have anything to do with relevancy anymore.

If cuil is 99.9% relevant and Google is 99.5% relevant - people aren't going to switch.

So I doubt if Cuil on their own beat Google. But they may well be bought by Microsoft.

The only search engine to overtake Google will be:

1. Someone that revolutionizes the game with something very new - voice based search or something.

2. Search engine that pays you to use them. (Scour.com is one site that is growing with speed that pays you to search...)

Goes to show when it comes to Naming...

Think about Coining short...

Cuil and interesting play on word Naming ideas into your business plans...

Although Unfortunate Business Names can work too...

Always a Good idea to Review every new Word(s) as a keyword...

Opinions can sometimes Lead you to Fresh new ideas...

Cuil seems quite interesting...

But I find their page Formating a little Bland...

Missing the top 10 marketing & consumerism benefits...

Cuil...

Default A Golden Opportunity For Infopreneurs?

My friend Dien beat me to the punch. I was going to post this breaking news to SOWPUB also.

This search engine is getting a lot of buzz. So much buzz in fact that it's servers have crashed -- and that is GREAT news. That means we will probably have another avenue to advertise our products.

It also means that infopreneurs will have an opportunity to create products showing people how to make money using the new search service (ie. GoogleCash).

You have an opportunity to put a new twist on existing products and get AHEAD of the herd.

Aloha,

Jason Cain

Jason,

Maybe...

But if most Marketers and select Media's are giving Cuil a thumbs down and mixed reviews...

Except for the usual Hype and Buzz of another startup that might be Trying to be the next Google...

Is Cuil really worth the investment... Especially for most small time marketers...

I guess time will tell on the ROI opportunities & possibilities of Cuil...

Might just become another Microsoft...

My opinion is Cuil is being built to eventually be bought by Yahoo or MSN, with the "real estate" mindset of creating an extremely valuable asset to sell to the giants.

Base on my opinion Cuil is a useful search engine and I know that it will help us web users, but as of the moment Cuil can't surpass the characteristics of Google, to the fact that Google has already established a wide array of functions aside from being a search engine. Just adding my 2 cents
