Planning radio interviews -- tips? Also need list of low-level radio satations...

As they say in the performing business -- I need a 'place to be bad.'

I need a list of low-level (small listenership) radio stations where I can start out, make some mistakes, and do my learning curve "in private."

Also, any helpful hints on doing radio interviews, in general.

I've been interviewed quite a bit on Florida radio stations over the past 2 years. The main obstacles are mental ones. First, the person interviewing you will seem like "a different person" once you're live on the air. They put on their "On the Air" voice/persona.

First, get out of your mind that you "have to sound good" or that you "don't want to sound bad."

Second, when you're speaking - DON'T LISTEN TO YOURSELF. Make yourself smile and make yourself enjoy the conversation. Don't get all caught up with the tone of your voice, whether or not you're hesitating, etc.

In other words, just be yourself. If friends and family are listening, that's fine. You're going to be a much harder critic on yourself than they will.

Be yourself.

If you try to impress, the experience will be much tougher than if you purpose to enjoy the experience and FORGET that others are listening.

Talk to 1 person and many will benefit. Try talking to many and you run the risk of "diluting" the effectiveness of your content by trying to appeal to too many people.
