Juan James Rodriguez Streaks in Front of Obama for $1 Million

A 24-year-old man who streaked at a rally in front of President Obama on Sunday may have a big payout headed his way.

Juan James Rodriguez was arrested for public nudity at the rally in Philadelphia on Sunday with "Battlecam" scrawled across his chest. Watch video of Rodriguez at left.

Rodriguez reportedly pulled off the stunt in response to a challenge from billionaire Alki David, who promised to pay $1 million to the first person to streak in front of the president.

David told the Weekly Standard that Rodriguez will get his money if he confirms what happened.

"When I see the video and it's confirmed...it won't be [a] check [that Rodriguez receives], it will be cash," he said.

David told the magazine that in order to win the cash, the streaker had to be within "eye-shot and ear shot of the president" as well as scream the name of his website six times. And, of course, be nude.

At the same rally, a man threw a book at Mr. Obama while the president was on stage waving to the crowd. The book missed the president, and the Secret Service later said it had been thrown by an over-exuberant fan and didn't represent a threat.

In the PR biz (as I understand it) they call this "GWTCA."

Which means, "go where the cameras are."

Waay back in the earlydays of the internet (1996)....I set up a website for my wife's Antique Shoppe. I made a Sign on a BIG piece of white sign board with BIG, BOLD Black letters of the site's URL.

I put this sign in the trunk of my car and whenever I saw a "Camera Possibility"...I'd get the sign out and try to get it ON Camera to get some FREE exposure for our website.

Examples:
1) There was a Grand-Opening of a Super Market. The local tv reporter was interviewing the Owner of the store AND....behind the interviewee was a guy holding a BIG SIGN with BIG,BOLD,BLACK letters. (Sure nuff, my sign was ON the 6pm News!)

2) We were sitting on our favorite beach when I saw a TV Reporter and Cameraman drive up. I watched as they set up the Camera TriPod. Well...out on the water were about 20 Kayakers...coming in. This was unique and different and NEWSWORTHY occasion and they didn't want to miss it....because the Kayakers were Kayaking IN The Pacific Ocean. This hadn't been done much before. I saw what was happening, ran to my car and got my SIGN...with the BIG,BOLD,Black letters....and proceeded to walk behind the kayakers as they were being interviewed Sure nuff...6pm News program had the reporter interviewing the Kayakers about their experience and...right behind then...IN the picture all the time...was a guy holding a Sign with BIG,BOLD,Black letters!

3) Santa was due to arrive at our local CourtHouse at a certain time for our Tree-Lighting ceremony. Well....here comes Santa...riding on top of a FireTruck tossing candy to the crowd and...at the TOP of the CourtHouse Steps....directly behind Santa...was a guy holding a Sign with BIG,BOLD,BLACK letters...and sure nuff....the Sign APPEARED on the News AND in the photos of the Newspapers.

4) We were on an Agri-Tour at a local Winery and a tv reporter and cameraman were there to interview the owner about the NEW facility. Well....the cameraman set up the camera to aim down a row of GrapeVines. At the end of the row was a guy holidng a SIGN with BIG,BOLD,BLACK letters and...sure nuff....the Sign WAS ON the 6pm News Show!

There were many more occasions when I was able to get my Sign ON CAMERA and....it DID bring us MANY visitors to our Antique Shoppe.

And...nowadays...whenever my wife and I are out and I see a TV Camera...I get the "Ol' Urge" to get IN the shot when the Red Light goes on. BUT, she restrains me. Alas...I have to just sit back and watch what's happening instead of BEING IN...what's happening.

I think I've read this book at every Christmastime since it was published. After reading AND "absorbing" some of the stuff Joe's done and how he looks at products and figures out HOW to properly promote them....some of his stuff gets :Embedded: in your brain.

One of the best stories, which is along what this thread is about is... he had just gotten the rights to the "Incredible Shrunken Head" (I used to have one hanging from my rear view....on a post on my house...a post in my front hall and family room...etc)

Well...he had a nice big swimming pool in his yard and...a mother duck decided to set up housekeeping alongside the pool and hatch her eggs. When the first newborn hatched...Joe took some photos and thought the local town newspaper would like to run an article about ..."Wild Duck chooses backyard pool for nursery!"....or something similar.

So...he was right. A reporter calls and asks if she and a photograher could come over and take some shots. Must've been a sloooow news day.

Well....Joe was not one to miss a chance to promote. In fact, when he first saw the duck setting up housekeeping....Joe's mind went into "Promo-Link". He had already planned out what he would do to get some FREE Publicity for his Shrunken Heads.

Before the reporter and photog arrived...Joe took some of his "Shrunken Head" shipping boxes with "The INCREDIBLE SHRUNKEN HEAD!" in BIG Letters on the side of each box...along with his name and phone....and put them next to the duck and her expanding brood.

Sure nuff...the next day...right there on the FRONT PAGE...were photos and a story about how this mama wild duck had chosen Joe's backyard pool to raise her kids.

HUGE...FREE publicity.

Anyway...thanks for letting me bring this off one of my Memory Hooks.
