I do remember seeing a cupcake store in my neck of the woods... But now, I just can't think for the life of me where it was I saw it...??!

They even have online ordering. Crumbs.

Our local bakeries all closed, leaving the job to the chain grocery stores.

Gordon, I hope your friend isn't a day late and a cupcake short.

I was going to post that IMHO, the cupcake fad had burned out already. This was big of a few years ago, with the Cupcake Wars show, and Cupcake Trucks all over US cities.

So I googled for some confirmation of my "theory."

If your friend is a baker with a passion for the sweeter things in life, he should still be fine.

If he's an entrepreneur with his eyes on "big bucks," it might be a tougher sell and require some really solid marketing on a daily basis.

The cupcake market is "made to order" (baked to order?) for social networking ... twitter, facebook ... and of course, good "old school" marketing that still works!

Direct mail in the neighborhood?

I just learned a friend of my sister-in-law owns Chicago Cupcake.

No shop, just a food truck and you can order online and they deliver.

I guess they are different than your traditional cupcake, with a crust and more of a mousse texture than cake.

We have it all in my city...

Cupcake stores,

Cup cake trucks

Alcoholic cup cake stores...

But of course i'm in orlando

I guess Oklahoma City is behind the times because we have at least 5 or 6 in the metro area and they all seem to be doing well.

The latest fad in my area is Dry Ice Ice Cream, made by mixing dry ice with cream.

I've also seen some cupcakes that are made out of soap or can be used as bubble bath.
