Default In a strange turn of events...

*This message has been cross-posted on a product development message board. You'll understand why after reading*

Hi folks,

I feel like I've won the lottery!

Due to a very strange turn of events:

On Monday, I was given - yes, GIVEN - the full rights to a complete handwritten manuscript of a high profile marketer. These almost 200 pages contain some extremly powerful marketing information.

I won't go into detail about it here, but I will say that I've read and utilized the information in books by people like Jay Abraham, Joe Vitale, Norman Vincent Peale, and Dale Carnige, and this guy's stuff is "Major League" material.

Now here's the question:

Should I recompile it into an ebook and offer it for sale that way...... or should I simply have it reprinted, stuck into a 3 ring binder and offer it?

I'm leaning toward the latter right now because I believe some of the manuscripts impact will be lost in reproducing it electronically. With all the side-notes in the margins and hand drawn charts, it's almost as if I was a physics student who stumbled across Einstein's notebooks!! ;-)

Opinions??

Wow - lucky you!

My feeling is that there's no reason why you can't do both and offer the electronic version for a slightly lower price (manufacturing costs, and all).

I gather from your post that your 'binder' option would offer a copy of the handwritten manuscript. Unless the handwriting is impeccible, I'd think twice about it. Have it typeset (just my opinion).

Here's an option - make a copy of the handwritten manuscript available as a bonus with the print version (Added Value = Higher Profits). You'll offer your customers the benefits of the information in an easily readable typeset form AND the impact of the original charts, etc. in the manuscript.

Oh, and when will it be for sale?

Scot

Hi Scot,

Ahhh, good to hear from you again! How are the PDF book sales going?

I can't go into this blindly. I have to create a game plan first and there is one beginning to gel in the old grey matter as I type this.

The manuscript speaks of one fatal mistake that cost the author his business and his reputation. As you know, hindsight is 20/20 and the author outlines how to avoid that mistake. It's one of the most powerful bits of info I have ever read.

I'm going to follow his advice to a "T". I estimate it will be for sale within the next 30-60 days. I also need to have an attorney look over the release letter he made me sign before turning over the manuscript to me, just to be on the safe side.

Ok. Before it appears that I'm trying to create hype about this thing, I'll log off.

I'll be in touch here on the board.

****Naturally I am curious..which sometimes gets the best of me....but I am wondering how you managed to attract such a product?!

I attracted a lap top computer last year...I thought THAT was pretty good! I want to hear how YOU attracted THIS?!

I agree with Scot. Good advice! If you find one is much more profitable than the other, you may want to just go with that. Test it out.

Good luck!!

I guess you could say I've been around the block when it comes to marketing. I've been communicating with the author for quite some time, and he knows that I'm a "Sneezer" as described in Seth Godin's book "Unleashing the Ideavirus" IdeaVirus.com

Asking questions. I asked for the manuscript!

Default Profitability and marketing

Hi Brenda,

Hey thanks for the response!

If I sell the manuscript as an ebook at a price of $29.95, and sell 100 copies a month, I'll gross about $3000 per month. Nothin to sneeze at.

However, if I give the book away in condensed ebook form virally (limited redistribution rights), in exchange for email and mailing addresses and permission to contact the people in the future, I'll have a highly targeted list of people interested in marketing knowledge. In each ebook will be an order form for hardcopies of the original handwritten manuscript. Sort of like using the product as it's own "back end".

As we know, the "list" is the key to long term profitability.

Other back end products could be CD ROM's, courses, video's of interviews, audio programs, all marketed to the list of already interested prospects.

Just one of the ideas I'm throwing around.

Have I sparked any ideas? ;-)

Default A simple solution to getting what you want....

Hi Lurk!

On how you got the manuscript....

> Asking
> questions. I asked for the manuscript!

I like that.... If you want something, you usually gotta ask!

For people to get themselves to a stage where they feel comfortable ASKing for what they WANT is a big step for many....

Thanks for the reminder -- asking works. :)

I got myself a discount on a restaurant meal a couple days ago, how did I do it? I ASKed if I could get one.... It's not quite on the same level as your manuscript, but I'm still pretty happy about it. :)

Many things are negotiable, especially if you give people a sensible reason to negotiate....
