Default Making money with government publications....

Hi Gordon,

Another great post, full of excellent info!

Yes, you CAN turn government publications into your own marketable product....

Here's a quick run-down on HOW to do this....

First, some might ask, but wouldn't that violate copyright?

The thing is, most US Government publications do NOT have any copyright! They are free to copy, distribute, and use as you see fit....

HOW can you turn that into a product?

I think the best approach is to use that info as the basis for your own product. That is, re-edit it, rewrite it slightly, rename it, add your own material, etc.

By the way, if you just publish it as it is, you can't then claim it is your copyright, because it isn't. BUT, if you ADD your OWN writings to it, or RE-WRITE it in some way, then you can add YOUR OWN copyright to the work!

This is probably the best approach.... I think. Any other views?

I actually got most of my info on this from Joe Cossman and William Cohen (they wrote a nice little book called "Making It!"), but I know that Bill Myers has done this too.... :)

Also, what you say about Charles Prosper and Jimmy Krug is true.... They are great role-models to observe and learn from!

And, as I've said before, Jim Straw's stuff is the best! I'm starting to run out of Jim Straw's reports to order.... Jim, please hurry and write some more.... ;)

And of course, Gordon, you're an excellent person to learn from yourself.... I've made quite a lot of profit by applying what I learned from your Chattel Report, and Remote Hypnosis has revolutionized my views on how to promote....

Thanks Gordon, fantastic post, full of good advice you can APPLY to start making profits.... :)
