![]() I'm in Sean Mize's lifetime coaching program. Lately, he's been teaching that giveaways and summits can drive massive traffic. He suggests getting participants from LinkedIn or FB. Then those people would email their lists to promote the event.

A summit is one of those deals where the organizer brings together X number of people as speakers. Each person typically speaks once. You may have multiple speakers each day. The live sessions are most often free. The summit will last seven to ten days. Once it's over, if a person wants to view the recordings they pay $Y price. This is the most typical format. To gain access the participant has to opt-in. With a giveaway, the organizer assembles X number of contributors. Each of them provide their giveaway item. Again, to participate, people have to opt-in. The organizer gets the email addresses of all subscribers. The contributors get the email addresses of only those people who opt-in for their item. In both cases, there would be a theme such as a weight loss summit (yes - it's a thing - I checked) or a health giveaway. I'm not thinking of joining any giveaways or summits right now. I think over a decade since I've attended an event, maybe longer. And I don't see myself going to one any time soon. Many years ago, I did an informal, unscientific study into people who went to Tony Robbins events. Some spending several thousand to walk on coals and jump off poles. Again, very UNscientific but anecdotally, none had made an income improvement, and few said they were better off overall, but ALL said they benefited from it. I think people have a great power, to fool themselves into thinking that going to events, paying money for courses, joining groups, and networking is in some way beneficial to their bottom line. I've found over the years, dang few of event attendees ever get around to applying what they learned, or bought at these things. Actually, fooling ourselves into believing what we bought, and never using it was enough. I think this to be a universal deception we do to ourselves. The knowing is as far from the doing as one can get, albeit, it somehow convinces us we are (like objects in the rear view mirror) closer than they are. Gordon |

Here are two examples. In the first one, they're charging an entrance fee. Many don't. Entrance is typically free after you opt-in but the sessions are often only available on the day they're live. Most similar IM events, have those individual presentations available on video and get close to the same price as the original. Well, the links still showed me a basic pitch fest, if not actually selling anything there, the presenters use the event to get recognized as an authority. But, see, I don't get any of it. Weight loss. It is simple (albeit not easy). Consume fewer calories and burn more. Making money. Have more and better transactions. Authenticity and life meaning. Do unto others as you want them to do on you. I looked at both of those summits. The Dr. who was at both, uses his appearance on Dr. OZ (the master fraud) for his cred. Neither of those summits are still available. Typically, if you want the videos after the summit, you have to pay for them. The contributors and organizers most definitely use these events to build credibility. I've been watching a video series on how to organize a giveaway. The guy has given fantastic information with examples. I'm thinking seriously of organizing one once I get the site done. Rick |
