Default The Water Cure... Looking for feedback....

I've recently been looking at a web site about how many of us apparently don't drink enough water.... According to these claims, many of us are dehydrated and many illnesses in fact stem from that.

Since reading this, I've been increasing my water intake (and adding a little bit of salt to the water too, in fact).... I'm an asthmatic, but now (and this is really true) my asthma is practically all gone. I don't seem to require taking my "asthma pump" now (which I used to take when I got short of breath). By the way, I'm also taking a beta carotene supplement as well, which I think also helps.... I've been taking the beta carotene for quite a long time, which improved things, but drinking LOTS more water seems to have made the asthma almost disappear totally.

The claim is that drinking lots more water can help all kinds of problems -- for example, some of the illnesses mentioned on the web site which can be helped are: heartburn, arthritis, back pain, migraines, high blood pressure, adult-onset diabetes, and so on....

What I want to ask is, does anyone else have any experience with this? I honestly do think it seems to work for asthma, at least in my case, but I'd like to know any other feedback others may have regarding this. Have you heard anything about it, or has it helped you or someone you know?

I've linked to the site I'm referring to below....

Thanks!

I use to have headaches and chronic low back pain...
I've been doing the water cure for
about 2 years now; rarely do I have a headache
or back pain; and when I do get a headache or
back pain I increase the amount of water; it
works "for me"...

I bought Dr. B's book on water and it makes
a lot of sense...

Not sure of the placebo factor; however, all
I know is it works for me and the friends who
have tried it...

Thanks Sandy for your feedback.... It's interesting to read about other people's experiences....

There could be a placebo effect, of course.... I *think* in my case it isn't a placebo effect, since I've tried all kinds of things for my asthma, and I've had some success with some of them. But this is the only thing which has made it go away almost completely. My reasoning is that if it is a placebo effect, I should have gotten that effect with the previous things I've tried (and maybe I did).... But the difference with this and my previous "experiments" has been remarkable.

Thanks again! :)

Default The Secret Is The SALT !

Hi Dien,

EAT SALT!!... Plenty of it !

In the mountains of India people put chunks of rock salt and butter in their tea. That’s right, rock salt and butter. Then drink 40 cups of tea per day, and live well over 100 years.

They do what doctors say NOT to do.

The average doctor lives to around 56. So are doctors right?

I'd rather take advice from a 100-year-old mountain Indian "guru"

Salt cleanses the body of many diseases and ailments.

Hey... How many sick fish in the ocean have you seen

Salt is said to be bad for you only because nobody makes much money out of salt, so the great food giants don't lose in "knocking it".

FACT - No two substances in the Bible are mentioned more than water and salt.

FACT - The environment of an unborn baby is water and salt.

I talked about salt on my forum back in June this year... "We Came From The Sea Thats The Key"

The key is to eat unrefined salt (known in health food shops as "real salt"), slightly gray in appearance and contains many trace elements required by the body,

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, the author of the book you mentioned talks about the 22 vital facts of salt and the ailments it helps.

I've eaten a ton of salt all my life and swear by it!

I also believe it helps you look alot younger... Maybe it's the fountain of youth :-)

Most people don't believe how old I am when I tell them, and often put me at 10 to 15 years younger.

Warmest Regards & $uccess

Ricky Higgs

It's partly placebo, and partly good medicine.

Doctors and nutritionists have been nagging us for YEARS to drink more water. Remember that "8 glasses of water per day" admonition? They're not saying that just to help themselves talk -- that's the average amount of water that a healthy adult needs (average. Your mileage WILL vary.) Water causes increased urination and flushes out the system.

Too much water, however, is not good because a lot of the vitamins and minerals are water soluable.

So, yes, I think there is a definate positive effect there. Some symptoms improve with time (my daughter's asthma got better as she got older and she did nothing in particular for it). I think it is one component of treatment/cure, but I sure don't think it's the ONLY one.

Here's an analogy: Putting the best grade of gas and oil in your car may help it run better and longer -- but it won't prevent your transmission from going wonky. High grade gas and oil will, however, keep the car in good condition (generally) and running longer. Water will help your body run better and will fix certain problems (tendancy for gout, will thin the blood a bit, flush out energy waste products), but it won't cure arthritis or cancer or leucopolycythemia or aneurysms or high blood pressure (unless caused by too much salt) or tuberculosis or... well... you get the idea. :)

Default Ahhh yes, good ol' water

A lot of people don't know this but by the time you notice you are thirsty your body is already 25% dehydrated. By the time you are really thirsty (dry mouth) you are closer to about 50%.

Living here is Arizona the heat is very dry. When the heat gets high our sweat evaporates before we realize how quickly we lose water.

I bought a 52 ounce insulated mug and fill it up 2 or 3 times a day with either watered down gatorade or just water itself. Since doing this I have had a huge drop in the amount of headaches, sore muscles, fatigue, and crabbyness (my wife agrees with that one).

I have also recently come down with Valley Fever, a disease usually seen here in the arid areas. It eventually goes away on its own after six months or so and is non life threatening. My doctor told me that with the amount of fluids I drink he expects a full recovery in about 1 and a half months. In case anyone is curious, Valley Fever is caused by mold spores that grows in the dirt in arid areas. When it finally rains it helps the mold grow and create pollen. Then when we have our giant dust storms, solid walls of dust traveling about 40 to 50 miles per hour and many miles wide, the winds and dust and pollens are picked up and carried for miles. If someone happens to breath in some pollen it settles in the lungs and causes aches, sleepiness, caughs etc. There it is in a nutshell.

Have a great weekend everyone. Have a drink (of water). It's on the house.

Hi Mel,

Yes, thanks, that makes a lot of sense.... :)

I think there certainly are problems which could be associated with dehydration, and drinking more can certainly help that....

The other factor which (as you mentioned) seems important is water's role in eliminating waste products (through urine and sweat). I could imagine that if you don't drink enough, perhaps it is easier for these waste products and toxins to build up in your body which could cause problems that way!

Thanks Mel!

Hi Ricky,

You could be right, but how does this mesh with what doctors tend to say about us eating too much salt already? After all, there is a lot of salt in most processed foods.... When doctors say people are eating too much salt, is what they really mean that people aren't drinking enough water? I'm no expert, but I wouldn't be surprised if drinking enough water helps to flush out the excess salt out of your system....

I haven't read Dr. B's book, but I'm interested in this partly because of the success I've had with my asthma since doing this. By the way, when I stop drinking as much, the asthma comes back, so it definitely seems to be the water.... I find that sometimes adding a LITTLE bit of salt to the water seems to help with water absorption.

Where I live (Melbourne, Australia at present) we also have a very dry heat.... We sometimes get a northerly wind which blows in from the desert, so the air is extremely dry. I do usually have problems with headaches in very hot weather, but now I'm expecting the problem is to do with dehydration so I'm looking forward to knowing how to combat it!

Thanks for sharing your experience.... :)
