![]() > Do you like it? Hate it? Tolerate it? Use
> it? > Pop-ups! Pop-unders! > Your turn to pop-off... > Just curious... Hi JDB! I find pop-ups, pop-unders, pop-overs and popadams annoying... (Actually the last two are delicious!) I think whether to use them might depend on the kind of site you have. If it is a site people will only go to once or twice (eg. the site is mostly a salesletter) then it could be beneficial.... However if you want repeat visitors it could dissuade them from returning. I know that I go to some websites less often when I know that each time I will be "greeted" by a pop-up.... But, as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting... You could try it and see. I haven't put any of these on my web sites, though I would probably consider it if they were web sites designed mainly to be visited once or twice to make a sale.... Well, there are some views for what it's worth. :) That's just on pop-ups... I don't know much about Start-Blaze / Exit-Blaze specifically... I'm looking forward to seeing what others say too.... - Dien Rice |

![]() I should mention that if you control a pop-up yourself you can use cookies so it doesn't keep popping up over and over for the same visitor....
I think this is good to do on a web site which is designed to be visited repeatedly. Just IMHO (in my humble opinion). Cookies... this discussion is making me hungry! :) - Dien |

![]() Personal observation: if you're forced to use popups or popunders to get a response from your visitors -- maybe you need to rethink your page layout and marketing focus.
What do you really want them to do when they hit a web page? Don't have that page offer six or eight different options (so that you want them to buy a book, join your marketing circle, sign up for your newsletter, and agree to receive mail about joint ventures ALL on the same page.) Sectionalize your website/web pages. Have each page focused on something different (think of CNN.COM... links to stories on the front page, and each story is within a section (entertainment, world news, us news, sports, financial, etc.) The marketing in each section "harmonizes" with the stories (no offers for Sports Illustrated in the financial section). They don't just dump everthing on one page. |

![]() I ABSOLUTELY HATE having windows opened automatically on my computer.
The fact is, unless you can ascertain the exact use to which I put my computer, you have no idea of how many resources are already in use, how many windows I may already have open, and whether or not your "pop-under" will crash my machine. The other annoying thing is that, too frequently, those who use pop* simply don't implement them well. Frequently the "submit" button isn't visible, the page can't be resized to make it so. And, If I DON'T close the window, intending to subscribe after I've viewed the site, there is no information that relates the little window to the site that spawned it. I generally make it a rule to close all that annoying stuff first. If there are too many (I've been on sites that pop 3 or more little windows) I simply shutdown my browser, and never return.) Of late, I've set my firewall to prevent outside execution of scripts (java, activex, etc.) If the site absolutely requires it, I just leave. If there's enough interesting stuff without it, I might turn those functions on just to see. (The sites that spark my interested enough to reset my firewall rules are VERY FEW, and VERY FAR in between.) Mary |

![]() Although I may not HATE them, they can be downright annoying.
I tried exitblaze on my site for a few days. I got tired of closing extra windows every time I fired up my browser. I have my main site as my home page, so every time I opened my browser, I was triggering the pop-under. I don't know if it generated any extra traffic or sales, but I scrapped the code after a few days. I'll have to rethink the idea of using an exit pop-up to offer a free report to collect email addresses. Many folks are doing this. It doesn't seem to be quite as annoying...at least, the pop-up is offering a freebie, instead of shoving a website in your face. Thanks for responding, Mary. ![]() > Do you like it? Hate it? Tolerate it? Use
> it? > Pop-ups! Pop-unders! > Your turn to pop-off... > Just curious... > JDB I added the ExitBlaze pop under window to my homepage. It seems rather unintrusive to me, so I didn't think it would matter. One or two regular visitors grumbled about it, but theory is that if I have a visitor that is seeing the pop under window over and over, they are using my site on a regular basis free of charge, and closing a pop under window on your way out is a small price to pay. However, I keep seeing the same two sites for credit repair pop up on both of my sites. I am beginning to seriously question the probram. Have a look for yourself and see what pops up. ![]() Obituary Central. That's the page that popped up for me! LOL!
By the way, I tried exitblaze too, and I got rid of it after the very first popup was for viagra. It's not the product that worried me, but the picture of a young man & woman in quite a.....passionate embrace. Not exactly the sort of thing I want in the faces of my visitors. Right now I'm trying Traffic Maestro which works the same way as exitblaze. So far there's been no offensive ads, but I do worry that my visitors will be annoyed by the pop-unders, which, at times, seem to multipy themselves. I think I'll be removing it soon. Anya.
