First, this is Michael Ross's "mystery" project he mentioned in his post from yesterday. It's called the "Entrepreneurial Hotsheet". That's all I can reveal for now. It will start THIS FRIDAY January 25.... If you'd like to receive it when it comes out, you must sign up NOW at www.sowpub.com/ehotsheet.htm . (You will need to confirm your sign-up by clicking on the link in the confirmation email you will receive... Your email address will only be used for this project - nothing else.) I promise you it will be worth your while! - Dien Rice |

Hi Tom, It seems to work for me. When I was testing it I once put my email address and name in the wrong boxes - could you have done that possibly? Please try again and let me know how it goes.... Dien |

If you like, please send me an email (my email address is above) with the email address you would like to use and I will add it manually. - Dien Rice |

> I'm not sure what is happening. It seems to > work alright for most people. I might know what is happening. I just got the same error. I'm using Norton Internet Security to handle my firewall and anti-virus duties. I had to disable Norton Internet Security and then it worked fine. I also have a similar problem on the Powerlink website, (my ISP), on this machine when Norton is running. It works fine on my laptop. So... if Tom, (or anyone else), is using Norton or some other firewall, they may need to disable to make it work then re-enable it. ![]() Rick ~
The specific part of Norton that is causing your problem is reporting of the "Referrer" string. By default your web browser sends the URL of the previous Web page up. Many scripts use that information for security. So probably Dien's script is checking to make sure that you are executing the script from a page on his site. Norton blocks that info and the script thinks you may be up to no good. Check around the privacy settings and you can turn just the referrer back on. My personal opinion is that blocking referrers is a very misguided idea - but hey what do I know. I have problems with some sites not displaying at all if I have ad blocking turned on. ~ Dan Butler What does your web browser reveal about you? |

![]() Thanks Dan and Rick,
That solves the mystery! I know the script that processes the data you type in (i.e. your name and address) checks whether the data came from a web page on this site (sowpub.com), for security reasons I presume. I'm not sure if I can easily turn this off (without partly rewriting the script), or if I could whether it would be a good idea. I'll look into it anyhow. Thanks for the fantastic detective work! You two sure know your stuff. :) - Dien |
