![]() The bowl of noodles represents everything... how we are all entwined in some way; how there's a lot more to each person than the bit sticking above the broth; how noodles can be made with different ingredients and end up being different in appearance; how different broth gives a different taste; how the presentation can differ but it's still a bowl of noodles (like different suburbs); AND the look on the guy's face as he eats the noodles is like an ah-ha look.
As for subheads: Mentioning "prayer" will apeal to those who believe in a typical God (Christianity-based) and turn off others. Mentioning "Sensible Thinking for Self Mastery" won't appeal to the 'religious set' as much as mentioning prayers. But the one I like best is the one with the bowl of noodles... If you can eat a bowl of noodles you can do anything. Hope this helps. Michael Ross. |

Hi Gordon, I can confirm Michael's thinking on this. As a Christian, "Practical Believing" sound fine - actually, I would prefer "Practical Faith" - I dunno, just sounds better to me. But you blow it for me by your wording of both sub-headings, which, according to my faith, don't jive with the title. The first, "Sensible Thinking for Self-Mastery", doesn't appear to have anything to do with the title (or faith), and kinda turns me off. The second, "Prayers that get Answers" is better, but puts me on my guard, because I know that God always answers prayer, but not always in the affirmative, and not always right away (Abraham waited 25 years before his prayer for offspring was answered - Genesis 15 - 22). Somehow, this subtitle implies the "name it and claim it" theology that would turn most main-stream Christians off. God won't be manipulated. After all, He's GOD!!! But yes, God does honor hard work, and it does say somewhere in the Bible that "the worker is worth his wages". (I forget where) Also, "Faith without works is dead" although I think the "work" here is the idea of demonstrating love to others and doing "good works". Perhaps an inspiration for your subtitle could be taken from Matthew 17:20 "...if you have faith as small as a mustard seed. you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you". So perhaps your subtitle could be "Faith that moves mountains" or some such thing. Sorry to be so picky about Biblical issues of faith, but the things that run through my head and keep me from "voting with my wallet" could also keep others from being attracted to your book. I'm just trying to show you my perspective. Perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about, and none of these ideas I've mentioned apply... after all I haven't read your book, which I'm sure will be a winner, no matter how you title it. :) I hope these comments are helpful in some way, they are offered with humbleness and respect. I DO like the picture on #1 the best! Hope to be more active on the forum soon, I've been away from my computer persuing other things. Anya :) Squamish....Where Eagles Fly and Men Try... ![]() |
