Default Help needed with translating my website into Japanese

Hi all

I want to penetrate the Japanese market with our Ferret Owners Guide to the Internet. We received an email from a Japanese veterinarian who made the point that we don't have much chance of success in that part of the world if we don't translate our site.

Is it worth it? Well, he said this:

"In our practice 30% of some 4000 active clients are ferret owners and they are among the most sophisticated pet owners who go to any length to care for their ferrets".

And that's only one tiny section of the market.

Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Many thanks

Philip Langley

Default International joint-ventures....

Hi Philip,

I don't have any experience with the Japanese market. However, I've read in Richard Branson's autobiography, that when he wanted to penetrate the Japanese market with his Virgin Megastores, he did it by finding a Japanese partner as co-developer and owner of the stores.

It was a win/win solution.... Richard Branson had his experience and brand name, and his Japanese partner knew the Japanese market, regulations, etc.

Now, what you are doing is probably on a smaller scale, but it sounds to me like this might be good advice for you too.... Find a Japanese partner, who is interested in joint-venturing with you to develop your Japanese marketing. They would ideally know the Japanese market in pet ferret owners, but at a minimum they would have experience marketing to Japanese. You could provide the product (which will be translated), and of course your own experience.

I think this is a good idea, because I know that often, internationally, people have different wants and expectations. The more different the overseas culture, the more likely this is to be. Having a "local" partner could really help you to avoid various expensive mistakes that you could otherwise make.

Since you already have a contact in the Japanese veterinarian, that seems like a possibly good place to start. He may or may not be the best person to joint venture with, but if he isn't, he may be able to suggest someone to contact.

Default I can highly recommend one company...

Drop me a line, and I'll give you their details. :-)

Alternatively, take a look at:

http://www.worldlingo.com/

Haven't used them myself though, so can't vouch for them. What's interesting is they seem to specialize in multi-lingual email support too, to help you answer questions and customers in Japanese.

Hope this helps...

Louis
