Default Fear of talking to people (selling)...POST ELEVEN

Maybe because I've been stabbed. Had my nose broken a couple of times, took more than I needed to take beatings as a kid from the neighborhood bully. But, talking to people does not scare me.

I am totally unable to relate to the little scaredy cats and cry babies who FEAR calling on businesses. In 50 years, no one has ever threatened my life and limbs because I asked them if they wanted to buy my wares.

I just can't understand this fear of other people, or the so-called, fear of rejection. And, honestly, I don't think I'm unususal.

BUT, if you are a Timmy Timid, Sherry Shakey....consider turning the tables.

REJECT THEM FIRST.

Strategy 14K I use. Walk into business, ask for owner/manager, pull out my map, then get flustered....OOOOPS, OMG, I'm in the wrong "pizza shop" I'm supposed to see Papa Felice not Papa Luigi, I'm sorry. I'll come back if he is not interested.

Interested in what?

Oh, you see I'm with ZipZone marketing, we send out these co-op postcards, but I can only put one pizza shop on the card and I was suppose to go from East to West...but I'll come back if Papa Felice isn't interested.

Just one strategy. Another, I taught Bud Riggs, when pitching his headlight cleaning biz, was to play a game...can you insult, annoy, or imply the guy wouldn't be able to afford your service.

Games. Make it a game. Fear of other people should be reserved for dark Friday nights, which are full of terror, or save your FEAR, cause we may have Don or Hillary for a President, both much scarier thoughts than rejection by a business person.

But, being afraid to talk to another person because you fear his/her opinion of you? Ridiculous.

Take my BE A DUCK course, where you learn how to let both the gentle cooling mist of praise and the cold, freezing sleet of criticism ...

roll off your back while you continue paddling in the direction of your goal.

For more than one reading this, your personal insecurity is preventing you from the life you know you could be living...how sad is that?
