Default Tons of adverts from the last 80 years

Hi,

Link is below the sample ad. Once at the site, click on the word 'Retrolounge' that's part of the Flash movie in the center of your screen. In the lower field under 'Advertising' there are 8 pages of links, and there seem to be a large number of available images in the various categories (such as Cinema, Music, Paperbacks...).

Hope this was useful or interesting,

- Boyd

Default Hey Boyd....

... those ads all come from the City where I grew up.... Birmingham, England.

Been left 15 years now but was interested in finding all the companies still in existence today. There's quite a few.

Even one from a engineering company my Dad used to work for

Thanks for posting the link I enjoyed it for other reasons rather than just the ads

Thanks mate!

Regards
Andy

Default Speaking of retro: How much did it cost ....

Hi,

Found a site called:

"How much did it cost in Morris County, New Jersey? 1902-2002"

[begin quote from the site]

The prices listed in this survey were published in the [Morristown, New Jersey] Daily Record newspaper, the first fifteen days of May of each decade from 1902-2002. In order to facilitate historic price comparisons, we selected staple items in fourteen popular consumer categories: automobiles, beverages, clothing, employment, food, garden equipment, household goods, medicine & health care, newspapers, personal care, professional services, real estate, recreation & amusements.

Whenever possible, we selected items/brands (Nabisco's Fig Newtons!) that are still being manufactured. This makes it possible to take a 1922 "shopping list" to your local supermarket or department store and compare prices.

[end quote]

So, when I was born a 3-bedroom house cost $12,500, eh? Now I guess they're a steal at $650,000--or am I losing my mind, which I actually think I am. If I stop posting, you'll know I've been committed or something else happened.

Link is below--enjoy!

Best,

- Boyd

Default Better Source..

Hi Boyd, I have a better source. It's my stash of magazine from the early 1900s. Those mags are full of some the best copywriting EVER!!

LOL - Hey, I actually *bought* that hypno-coin out of a comic when I was in grade 4 or 5! :D

I really wanted to get the submarine so I could go underwater adventuring at the cottage, but in hindsight I think the submarine was $19.95 so likely not very sea worthy .

I don't recall ever actually being able to hypnotize anyone with that coin, but I *did* give my best friend a headache after I made him stare at it for half an hour while I chanted "you're getting sleepy... sleeeeepy".

...the things kids will do. If I'd had more money, I mighta bought the Xray glasses too! *smirk*

Thanks for the post,

-Steve Gill

Hi,

I wonder what the appeal of these hypnosis products is?

Best,

- Boyd
