Default Subdomain or Directory for a WP Blog ?

Hi,

I just created a subdomain for a Wordpress blog and then I have heard on the Warrior forum and Digital Point some different opinions on how to set this up - some people think a subdomain is fine, and some say a directory on your site can hold WP (doesn't sound easy) - so SE's think a subdomain is another website and will not regard it as part of your site ? That's what I'm hearing. So, why even using subdomains for blogs ?

Anyone tried this and does anyone know the best strategy here ? Is it best to set up a WP blog for your html site in some sort of a directory on your site (please tell me if it's complex)or is it best to set up a subdomain ?

Your expert opinions are appreciated.

Hi - you don't say whether or not your web host runs cPanel - if it does, then installing wordpress is a click of a button from the Fantastico scripts section. It will go in a directory - or at the top level of your site, depending on what you'd like to do. I think other web hosts also offer this easy install feature.

The search engine benefits of a blog come when the blog and the rest of your site can be spidered; so your site navigation should include the blog in its structure and it should be possible to navigate back to the rest of your site from the blog.

Best wishes
Margaret
