Default Copywriting MASTER CLASS from 350 Million Man James Patterson

Thanks Dien,

I notice a recent post
was about Copywriting.

Thought I'd Share.

I Am halfway thru this video course by James Patterson.

#1 Most books sold - 350 mil and counting.

I Highly Recommend it.

https://www.masterclass.com/classes/...NZhgodHoAL7w#/

WARNING -

Mr Pattersons 22 Video Lessons are intimate and conversational.
But really packed with good advice.

Like reading Sun Tzu "Art of War"
or "The Book of 5 Rings"

IF you take action and Start Writing - using his advice.
You find What he says CHANGING based on what you do to TAKE ACTION. Which
is why I found myself watching the same video over again.

Kinda Weird.

Patterson drops STARTLING -- Behind the scenes -- TIDBITS too.

***70% of all Pattersons Readers are women.

The 70% I believe are newer numbers as he's added more female collaborators to his group. I like that he admits he doesn't enjoy writing the sentences, but is more of a broad stroke outline type writer.

Art of War has several new TODAY strategies, like the Higher Ground approach.

I don't read much fiction these days, I could never read S. KING although my ex read it at bedtime every night. When she was reading Cujo, I used to growl in the middle of the night...got a cuddle one way or the other. HA

I mention King because he has been a vocal critic of Patterson and doesn't think much of him as a writer...but I'm sure we can all learn from
Patterson's methods.

Similar to sculptors, who had their co-workers carve out the stone, and they (Big Name) put the finishing touches on it, and got the bigger bux too.

Good stuff Glen, thanks.

Hi Gordon,

I agree that James Patterson has a unique approach, from what I've read (not having done the course.)

I believe he writes an outline of the story, and another writer "fleshes it out"... Something like that, anyhow, I believe!

It's pretty smart. A way to churn out a lot more books for his fans than he could possibly write on his own...

You're right, we can learn from this technique!

I know James Patterson comes from an advertising background. Perhaps this is more-or-less what they did at his ad agency.

Best wishes,

Dien

Thanks Gordon,

In a Wall Street Journal article James Patterson says he enjoys YANKING
Steven Kings Chain by COMPLIMENTING him.

Love it.

Thanks, Glenn...!

Those "Masterclass" videos have a pretty good business model... By getting the most successful artists at their crafts to do these teaching videos...

I'm curious to know how James Patterson suggests using Sun Tzu or Miyamoto Musashi...? Is it to quote them in your writings? Or to somehow apply their techniques to writing, or marketing, or something like that?

(I am a fan of Sun Tzu in particular, and keep coming back to it and re-reading it... There is a depth of wisdom in that book!)

Best wishes,

Dien

Default I confess I Am The One Who Compared Pattersons Advice to Sun Tsu

Thanks Dien,

Actually Steven King and James Patterson have much in common.

In Steven Kings Excellent book, "On Writing"
he gives very simplistic advice.

"...Tell what you see - then get on with the story."

James Patterson's video MasterClass Advice
is much the same.

SOUNDS VERY SIMPLE.

BUT Here's Why They will NEVER AGREE.

Steven King says his books s*ell because he Himself NEVER knows
what will happen. (Which means he gets an idea - then Starts writing without
knowing how the book will end. Or an outline.)

WHILE...

James Patterson Outlines the HECK out of each book.
Then turns his outline over to a Professional Copywriter who used to work
for him in his Ad Agency.

Then edits and Works with Each MASTERMIND
Writing Partner -- on Rewrites until he is satisfied.

Although I was happy to hear that
Patterson Personally Writes all of 2 or 3 books a year - all by himself.

Thanks,
Glenn

Default And they have several differences too.

Glenn

One BIG difference, King doesn't share his advances and commissions with his ghost writing TEAM.

All writers have their own methods, the in common thing is

they WRITE.

Writing fiction is a different art form, and writing non-fiction is less art and more science or even pseudo-science and/or pop culture and topical.

Thank god there are still READERS...writers of the future are going to have a tougher time (or modify and tweak for future generations).

Reading thousands of books on writing, is like panning for gold in the creek, you have to be able to recognize the resonant nugget from the fool's gold.
