Default Finding B-to-B Salesmen/women

Thought I had a great idea to contact outside salespeople by just putting a 15 word classified in my local paper ... they wanted $216.73! Ouch!

Checked Nationwide Classifieds in my area and the ONLY classifieds THEY have is the Thirfty Nickel in my area.

I want to reach my local business owners WITHOUT me being a pushy salesman. I've checked about doing a seminar for the local chambers, BUT, they want a couple of hundred dollars for dues before you can EVEN think about doing something.

Ha! The library does not want ANYONE to do something even for FREE if a business sponsors the program.

So how to I reach the sales people who are already getting in front of the business owners?

Warmly,

Millard

Phil,

Thanks for the info.

The bottom line is that I want to reach a lot of local businesses at the lowest cost without renting a room for a fortune or placing an ad that maybe a few folks will see.

I'll work on a few things.

Cheers,

Millard

Hello Millard,

I post on multiple forums and leave a link to my website when it is acceptable.

That way, I let the B2B professional sales people and wanna-be home-based salespeople find my site and me.

My posting is my number 1 source for new leads.

There are 2 businesses where there are Trained Salespeople;
1) Local Newspapers
2) Local Am & FM Radio

With one of my projects I needed someone to sell my product to "Car Dealers"....so...I called the Newspaper "Display" dept & Radio Stations and asked, "Who handles Car Dealers?"

I told them I had an "Auto Product" I was coming out with and would like to talk to a salesperson.

When the "Car Dealer" salesperson came on line I told her I had a new product I was introducing and would she have time to meet me for coffee.

At coffee I showed her my product and asked her if she'd be interested in "Making Some Money, ON THE SIDE!" I told her she could bring out my product AFTER all was over with the Dealer.

I did the same with Radio salespeople and usually got salespeople.

Sometimes I'd just call the Newspaper or Radio Stations and ask to speak with an "Outside" salesperson....and ask them point blake, If they'd like to make some money "On The Side".

Granted...some considered working with me a "Conflict of Interest"...BUT, I knew that most of these folks were "Hungry" because their Commissions were NOT that great....and I was always able to get the salespeople I needed.

I've also contacted some Real Estate Agents who'd like to make some money "On The Side"....and gotten some of them.

Worth a try.

Don Alm
P.S. Good to see ya in print again Millard. Hope all is well.

Thanks for asking Millard.

You could probably target accountants and corporate lawyers instead of salespeople. They can help you reach the business owners too.

Yellow Pages and Google Local Search are good ways to find local accountants and attorneys.

We can probably help you better if we know what your final goal / idea / purpose is.

Hi Millard,

May I suggest that you do something to what I have seen David Dutton do:
Here is a link to his Meetup group:
http://smallbiz.meetup.com/665/

This could grow into a regular event like his or you could taylor it to your specific needs.
I am certain that he would give you a few pointers on how to use meetup.

For contacting the small biz owners....
simply call and ask to speak to the owner, 95% of the time you can at a min get contact info or hours they are there.
If that doesn't work, check your local property records, it will likely give name of property owner. Often times this is either the corp name of the company that will include owner info, at a minimum you will get the owner of the rental property.

As I write, I notice that you state you are interested in the owner info, however, later you state you want the salespeople info.

Ankesh may be correct by suggesting you be more specific as to your wants.

Please be more specific and I will offer my recipe for contacting the salespeople vs. the owner.

Will the owner benny from your deal?
Will you wholesale through the biz, or are you looking to "STEAL" the salespeople from the given small biz owner?

The answers to these 2 questions will help me identify the method of contact I will suggest
Thanks,
Jason

Here's some more info on what I am doing.

I want to ultimately talk to the small to medium business owner. I have a special package of services that will grow their business quickly.

After being an outside salesman for various companies in my life, I learned how to make sales... but I DO NOT want to go this route personally.

It is about positioning. As the owner of my company, I could go around and talk to business owners and just be friendly. I WOULD get some business.

I want to do it faster, hence having sales people on the street. So, working with established sales people would just be an ad on sale as Don A. mentioned.

Hope this clears things up.

Millard

Hey Millard,

Any reason to not use direct mail for this? If you stand to make a good profit with whatever you're selling, why not spend a few dollars to send a series of mailings to your prospects? I don't know what you were planning on paying your salespeople, but I would think direct mail would be one of the cheapest ways to market your services.

If you can't find salespeople locally, how about using craigslist to find some people willing to telemarket from home?

All the best,

Steve
