Default Keeping a notebook? If you're not revisiting it, that could be what you're missing...

If you want to always have "content" - either for writing articles, books, courses, promotions, comedy routines, and so on... It's a good idea to keep a notebook...

But are you revisiting it regularly?

If not, maybe that's what you're missing?

The following are a couple of great articles I read about this recently...

I keep extensive notes on everything. (At the moment, I use Simplenote, because I can use it on my desktop, my laptop, or my smartphone - but it sometimes has problems syncing, which is annoying. I regularly download my notes to back them up - Simplenote just saves them as text files, so it's straightforward... Google Docs is probably more reliable, though...)

However, I need to implement a system like these guys use, to revisit my notes... This helps you organize them better, so you can "mine" your own notes better, for re-use (and profit) in many ways!

Thankfully, I have years of my notes... I'm pretty sure I have enough material there for several kick-ass books or courses!

I think this is really helpful...and timely too

Believe me, there are few things as annoying as having to frantically search for a relevant note that you are sure is in there SOMEWHERE...

The method used by Ryan Holiday (see my earlier link) appears to be the "secret" of best-selling author Robert Greene...

Robert Greene has written immensely popular books, which are compilations of huge amounts of information on a single topic...

"The 48 Laws of Power," "The 33 Strategies of War," and so on...

You can't put those together without a good system!

To me, it's an amazing revelation!

(I wouldn't mind putting together such a book... Maybe one day...)

Simplenote supports markdown and html. Joplin might be a little better, in that it supports different categories/notebooks. Notes can be synchronised with various cloud services including Nextcloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV or the file system (for example with a network directory).

You can tag notes, and search across all of your notebooks if you want to. It also has a web clipper that you can use to save articles you are viewing in your browser. I find this makes it really handy. It sits on your browser toolbar and you click it to save whatever you're reading. Like Simplenote, it supports Markdown and html. https://joplinapp.org/

One thing I don't like about it, is the editor for adding your Markdown or html isn't so good. But you can export your note to an editor you have downloaded (there are lots of free ones) or use an editor online. Have a look at this one... https://dillinger.io/

Dillinger shows you how to use Markdown too. Markdown is a way to add images or format your text, add link, etc... It's getting quite popular. Social networks like MeWe Reddit and others support it. There is a Markdown plugin for WordPress too.

Wow, very useful!

For me, having a place I can take notes - which will synchronize between my computers and my phone - is critical... I need a place where I can jot down ideas wherever I have them... and I mean wherever ...!

I also don't want it to be too "clunky"... I find Google Docs a bit too "clunky" for my liking.

I'm trying out Joplin... This could work well...!

(I did like Simplenote, but have been having reliability problems of late...)

I installed Joplin on one of my desktops and on my iPhone... Synced things using my Dropbox account... and it seems to work well!

I'm most likely going to switch over to using this now... (As I said, Simplenote has had reliability problems for me lately...!)

There is a slight "learning curve" but all is good once you figure it out...
