I’ve crossed to the dark side, I’m no longer readiness and preparedness, now, I’m strictly doom and gloom. Here’s why:

We have just witnessed another failure of the Army Corps of Engineers, although, it is really not their fault. They have been UNDER funded and undermanned for the last decade and congress and the President haven’t done much to assist them.

The levees along the Mississippi are the responsibility of the Corps. There is talk about the great flood of 1993 and many residents along the Big Muddy will tell you, there has been a lot of talk about reinforcing the levees, and very little action.

Perhaps in a year the NEW President will have gotten things working again, and all is well and happy days are here again. Be sure to post and tell me how insane I was (today) a year ago.

In the report, The Winds of Change (www.incomeandhappiness.com ) I did mention the infrastructure of the USA being rusty and in need of repair, and it is only going to get worse. Just wait til later this summer when you witness how decrepit our electric grid infrastructure really is. Anyhow, the main reason for my conversion to the doom and gloom side is this:

Armed THUGS are about to get organized.

OH, they are already, but they have remained local, in a specific area, and they are known as gangs.

One amazing fact is that Blackwater hasn’t had any problems finding tens of thousands of skilled mercenaries to do the chores of the military, in Iraq and also in hidden cadres throughout America. But in the gangs;

there are now Army trained men coming home that know and understand how a small group of 12 men can take out a village.

Consider 100 heavily armed gangsters, organized in platoons raiding a gated community in S. FL or S. CA or even in here in Ohio. They know how to take out the first responders, they have seen and participated in covert ops, and can simply overwhelm a small community of wealthy families.

They know how to keep the National Guard busy, how to overwhelm the fire and police forces, and they could be building "camps" and sanctuaries across the country.

Is this one reason George W. has Blackwater "troops" embedded in cities throughout the country? Or does he?

IF you don’t belong to a food coop, you should start one.
IF you don’t have some emergency juice, an electric generator with the fuel to power it, you should get one.

Oh, I know. This sounds like something out of a Mad Max movie.

Yet, you will see so much happen in the next year, and you will witness an organized "poor" class that has historically toppled nation after nation, rise up in the streets of America.

When the people get hungry, when the rich and aristocracy HAVE, when the have-NOTS get leadership, and IF that leadership comes from GANGS, there will be blood in the streets of America.

You will see Martial Law again come along with the tanks to the cities of the USA, but will the US have the manpower to cope with domestic violence?

I do hope I’m wrong.

I agree that times are not the "best" at the moment... Floods of course are very tragic for those in flood-affected areas...

On other fronts, most people are "hurting" too... The high price of gas, and rising prices of everything else too... Food is a big one, because everyone has to eat food.

If you are in the midst of a disaster, the best you can do is survive...

But - as long as you're not in the middle of a disaster - where there is change, there is always opportunity for someone...

(As you have often pointed out in your recent products, and in your "Income and Happiness" blog!)

For example, with rising gas prices, there is opportunity.

Some opportunities are for vehicle makers, to make more fuel-efficient vehicles... Although they're still a "niche" market, this vehicle niche (of hybrid vehicles) is poised for explosive growth...

There is opportunity for bicycle sellers, to sell "fuel-efficient" bicycles. Bicycles use no gas at all! I predict we'll see a boom in bicycle-riding, as gas prices get higher and higher...

There's opportunity in selling motorbikes and scooters. They run on a lot less fuel than cars do. I also predict we'll see a lot more people riding motorbikes and scooters as a result of higher fuel prices...

That also leads to an opportunity in teaching people how to ride motorbikes and scooters, to help them get their license...

There's also opportunity in showing people how to drive in a more fuel-efficient way. There's a movement called "Hypermiling"... There's opportunity there...

And there's also the opportunity to sell those fuel additives that are supposed to make your car be more fuel-efficient... (I don't know much about 'em, but I'm sure the demand for those has increased...)

This is not to devalue in any way the pain and suffering that many are going through. But instead, to show that in times of change, there can be a "silver lining" for people who are prepared to change their thinking a little bit....

Here's a recent article about what I was talking about a few months ago... Cycling in the USA is undergoing a "Boom"...

Cycling has always been big in parts of Europe (at least that's my impression from Europeans I've talked to in the past) - often for health and environmental reasons. High gas prices may mean we'll see a similar trend in the USA...

I couldn't help but think Kurt Saxon as I read your Vision of Roaming Gangs. And I was waiting for the "pistol by the bed, shotgun above the door, a three oh eight for reaching out, you don't need any more" rhyme as a finishing touch.

As Stoddard had so rightly discovered and shared in "The Revolt Against Civilization" the Undermen have indeed toppled past civilizations. However, those civilizations didn't have... TV... Welfare. Two Props, if you will, to help prevent the Upside-Down Population Pyramid from falling over. As Welfare gives them enough food to stop them rioting, and TV keeps them occupied and apathetic.

Gee, they can't hardly drag themselves away from the Box to vote.

Sure, there COULD be gangs building camps throughout the USA. There COULD also be other rival do-gooder gangs building Counter Camps and infiltrating the Bad Camps so they can be Ready. There COULD be lots of stuff going on. Specially with all the IFs thrown in there. Almost like a Bill Myers Letter.

I just don't see widespread internal riots within the US in the next 12 months - unless you're pre-empting for some kind of Race Thing what with the Federal Election coming up and if the Dems lose again (which I don't see).

PS. The Etherworld tells me that Big Bertha, the next tropical storm, perhaps first hurricane of the season will begin forming around July 5th...and be fully developed or dissapated by July 10th. The ether is cloudy right now, perhaps from the smoke of the S. CA. fires...but Big BERTHA may pack a wallop...probably up Eastern coast...S. Carolina perhaps. Forecasting is such an iffy deal, even when using such a reliable "source" as the Ether net. HA!
