Default Waiting Rooms

Has anybody tried creating a product for waiting rooms? I've been in a few lately and it seems luck of the draw to find anything to occupy your mind with while you wait. I did a quick google about waiting room publications, didn't find much, but did see the stat that the average wait is fifteen minutes. Talk about a captive audience. I don't think it would be hard to create a product that enhances people's waiting room experience, any Ideas, experiences?

Hi my friend,

Thanks for asking about waiting rooms.

In the archives of the old forum there was quite a bit written about this. A few that come to mind are:

My Doctor’s Waiting Room program that has to do with supplying magazines, that you get for free and charge a monthly fee to the offices. Also a bonus program on supplying a hotsheet for waiting rooms.

Gordon’s Chatteling guide has ways to make Hotsheets that are a perfect fit for waiting rooms like his I’m Buying Hotsheets.

And Vondre has a new program that is like a national newspaper that has interesting articles that fit in to the waiting room crowd.

See below for links to this information.

Skip's got some good advice and some good links as well. I've been in plenty of waiting rooms before and am always looking for some time to kill so I certainly think there could be a good opportunity for you here.

I have seen some mini-magazines published and distributed for free by major sponsors in a few waiting rooms with plenty of copies available if you wanted to take one home.

At the gym I just joined I noticed they have magazine racks near the treadmills and stairclimbers with two large ad spaces on it for 8.5 x 11 ads. Maybe you could provide waiting rooms with free magazine racks that include your sponsors ads, or include a few rack card sized slots for your advertisers brochures? With a lot of tourist attractions in my area most restaurants and hotels have some kind of large rack card display in the lobby, but there's no reason you couldn't do this in a doctors office. Sure the traffic may not be as great as in a restaurant lobby, but you could probably promote some higher ticket items and get a decent rate for the ad space.

Steve

P.S. Just did a little Googling and came across the following interesting article about waiting room advertising http://www.acponline.org/journals/ne...9/waitroom.htm

Thank you Skip and RaveDesigns,

I like the idea of a booklet that might provide inspirational quotes, stories, mabye games ect. sponsored by local businesses. Something that patrons can take with them. I'm working on a few other ideas as well.

Supplying fresh magazines every month to Doctors waiting rooms and charging a fee is a great idea. However I was unable to secure enough free magazines to go ahead with the business.

Just my experience and this business may work well for others.

Default Why wait for free mags?...

Why wait for free mags?

Create some folders that go around each mag -- the top half of the cover of each outer folder is clear plastic -- to show the title of the mag.

The bottom half of each cover is an ad for a local biz.

You get $ from the local biz's to be on the folders' covers -- that (more than?) pays for the mags.

Maybe?

Just an idea.

Why dont you become a magazine subscription agent and get the magazines at cost charge the doctors office $25.00 month put them on direct deposit or pay pal. You can give them 15 magazines a month your cost will be around $15.00 month and the rest is all profit. Here is the link to sign up to be an agent http://www.subscriptionagency.com/list.cfm hope that helps you out.

Hi Mark,

Out of the people that have tried this program only two wrote and said they had a problem getting magazines. In the report I show a number of ways to get free magazines. I have had a few that tried one recycling center and gave up. After I did a search in their area and found 20 or more recycling centers they were able to secure the mags they needed.

I also give them a list of sites to get free magazines subscriptions. And tell them to search out other sites. When you do a search for "free magazines" you will come up with millions of hits.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...es&btnG=Search

Here is just one.

http://www.all-freemagazines.com/

Look at the catagories on the left hand side. Under each catagory there are hundreds of free subscriptions you can get for free.

Like any business if you run into a problem you have to find a way around it. In the above responses are a few answers but not all the answers. Look for answers not problems and you will find the way.

Also like any business you have to do some work to get to your final goal. No one program will work exactly the same in ALL areas and for ALL people. Think it out and find THE way to make it work in your area.

Best of success,

Skip

Thanks Skip for the tips.

I am still pursuing the business but at this point I have not secured magazine sources which is the main ingredient to the business. The concern I have getting the free subscriptions is they are going to want a telephone number and obviously an address to send the magazines. The address is not a problem, I can rent a box from UPS store but I do not want to give out my home phone number and be called constantly to subscribe. They will give free subscriptions for so long and then will call to sell it.

I think it is a great business idea that I need to iron out a few things and secure magazines sources.

Thanks
Mark
