Default CD's vs. Audio Tapes vs. eBooks.

Have any stuies been done about what sells best on a website, for the same product. What I mean is : Say you are selling tips on Gardening. Will these tips sell better in eBook, CD or Audio Tape form ?

Obviously, the last two must take a great deal more money to produce and send by normal mail, but, is there a proven marketing answer ?

Why am I asking ? Because I want to look at alternatives to eBooks for the future.

Thanks very much in advance for your opinions and information.

Ken, I think you are wise to look at alternatives to ebooks.

I have just started testing the idea of giving my customers the option of receiving a CD in the mail at no additional charge.

Why? I think ebooks are on the decline -- too much low priced junk out there.

I have noticed a downward trend with free ebooks as well: People are just not reading them. I know this because I track clicks on the links in my ebooks and they have been steadily declining.

Default Every Tom, Dick, and Erik

Yes, but that's what happens to any idea a year or two after the gurus pitch it... every Tom, Dick, and Erik has their own ebook. And the quality has gone down to the extent that a low priced or free ebook has a very, very low perceived value.

People just started to notice that a lot of them are low priced front end or free teaser reports, not a crime in itself. But after sifting through a few dozen of these, anyone would start to become desensitized.

What? My newsletter? No, I don't think you can handle my rants (and occasional info-dispensing)

I hate to give you an answer you probably don't want to hear. The simple fact of the matter is that what works for me, might not work for you. So what do you to determine what works for you? Well, you have to test. (James alluded to that in his post.)

So, the short answer is, *you* have to do the study to determine which will work best. One of the best ways to do that is with a split test. If you want more specifics on split testing, please ask.

I know I personally would go for an audio version of an ebook any day. I am a WAHM and I love the streaming audio choices, I get a newsletter from Paul Barr in austraila every week, and it audio. I listen, feel more connected to him, since I have heard his voice, and can fold clothes and listen at the same time. Something I can not do while sitting at the computer reading.

I am looking into what type of equipment and how difficult it might be to present my books this way. I will still offer the ebook, but will offer it in an audio version as well. That way, I am overdelivering what most of all the others are doing.

Sincerely,

Laurie Meade
