Default Don Alm's 2 New ZINGER Money-Makers

First off...Congrats Joe Delbecq for taking "just an idea and running with it". Re: The EMAIL CLUB program. I hope ya get that Pizza Chain.

Here's a report on 2 items I am making some SERIOUS money with;

1) COFFEE SLEEVE ADS - I discovered that the 8 coffee stands in my town are selling an average of 50,000 expensive cups of coffee each month. (We are in Starbucks country) I went to the 3 people who own these stands (1 owns 2, 1 owns 2 and 1 owns 4) and offered to provide them with FREE sleeves (they're also called "Java-Jackets")

They all said "GREAT!"

I then contacted the maker of these sleeves and found that my cost would be 4cents ea printed.

I then went to a car dealer, radio station and cell phone provider and asked them if they'd like to have their logo or ad in front of an AFFLUENT AUDIENCE for 30 MINUTES.

I told them I'd put THEIR LOGO or AD on 50,000 Coffee Sleeves for 12cents ea....$6,000.

They said, "Do It!"

$12,000 for a little "work". Should keep me busy "part-time" for the rest of the year.

2) One day, as I was watching the owner of my favorite restaurant change the Daily Specials on his "Daily Specials Board"...I got a HOT FLASH.

"EVERYONE who comes into this restaurant looks at this Daily Specials Board. Why not put ADS OF LOCAL BUSINESSES on this Board? They would be SEEN by people going out to eat."

So...my next thought was; "WHY would a restaurant owner use a Board I gave him that had ADS on it?"

I thought;
"2 Reasons;
1) The Board would be NICE LOOKING, like a piece of fine furniture.
2) The restaurant would have a chance to SUPPORT local businesses who support him

So...I went to a carpenter friend....gave him a set of plans and told him to make me a sample.

I took photos of the sample...showed them to my restaurant friend and told him I would provide him with my fancy SOLID OAK Daily Specials Board for FREE! He said, "FINE! DO IT!"

I then showed the photos to some local business owners...told them they could have a space on this Board that would be seen by EVERYONE eating at this restaurant for $550 for 1 year or $$850 for 2 yrs.

8 of them took the 2 yrs option.

$6,850 in 2 days, for a little "work"

I now have permission from 20 restaurants in my area so it looks like I will be busy "OffLine" for awhile...except in eves.

I am NOT selling this as a Biz-Op BUT...you can see what my Daily Specials Board looks like at the link below.

Give these programs some SERIOUS THOUGHT and remember...there is LIFE OffLine!

Thanks for reading....Don Alm

Default Don, You Never Cease...

to amaze me! ;o)

Thanks for your support Don.

The meeting with the Pizza guys was interesting
to say the least.

I arrived, and was led to a conference room
containing 12 gentlemen seated around an oak
conference table.

After introductions, the head honcho said, "you
have 15 minutes... GO!" *gulp* ;o)

I just got done reading Customer Centered
Selling by some Zerox guru, and was ready
with my "pad 'n points" of background questions
I was going to start off with.

I opened with a version of Mike Rodman's "take a way"
opening, and told the board I'd like to ask them
a few questions.

I was immediately shot down with...

"Well... we may not want to answer your questions,
just tell us about your program"

Ouch... so much for customer centered selling. ;o)

But thanks to Mike and the Zerox guy... I
remebered about personality types. And I
cut to the quick.

I explained our program and how it would compliment
what they are already doing. The were
receptive and asked many questions.

We talked about a "pilot" program, starting
with 6 stores.

Then near the end of my 15 minutes... the president
asked... "when do you need an answer by?"

I replied: "Monday morning", and they agreed.

So... we'll see. I think it went well. I was
a nervous wreck. But the way I look at it...
selling to a single store/single owner should
be a piece of cake now!

Oh yeah, BTW... at one point the president asked
about exclusivity... meaning we wouldn't solicit
other pizza joints in their market.

What do you think... that sounds AWFULLY expensive
to me. Should I offer something like that if they
sign ALL 21 stores? How would that work?

Well anyways... thanks for reading my ramblings.
I'm off to do some Cold Calling this morn.

Thanks again Don. BTW... what's your cost
on the oak "specials" board? Looks nice.

Kind Regards.

Default Great job Joe!!!

Joe ~

Super job!

Hitting a 'Driver Personality' right off the bat is a tough indoctrination to go through!!! Especially in a Board Room setting!!! Talk about being swept out of your 'Home Field' advantage!!!

A few words of advice to keep in mind if you find yourself in front of a 'Driver', in that particular setting again. When he makes that statement to you: Stay in control... Don't make any sudden moves... Talk with a firm voice, no crackling... Don't show any fear in your eyes... And most importantly...

Have easy, fast access to your Red Pepper Spray, if necessary!!! ;-) LOL (Just kidding!)

But really... Do your best to stay in control of the presentation. It's YOUR presentation and YOU'RE there to increase sales for THEM.

Stay in control with open-ended questioning...

Discover what's important to them. Their experiences with past advertising. Why they chose to do what they did. Were there any problems or concerns. Did they have a good return of investment.

Tweak the 2 Page Questionnaire to your needs. It can be a deadly tool for you. Plus if you're knocked off your thought process by a Driver again, you have your Questionnaire to fall back on. Make plenty of notes! Also...

Don't "Spill your candy in the lobby." In other words... Don't solve their problems or provide a solution until you get where YOU want to be. You aren't doing this for free! Get a commitment from them BEFORE you provide all of the solutions.

I have a number of accounts I have walked away from, and left in disarray knowing they've needed help, because of their responses. Don't solve their problems, issues and concerns until you have a commitment. You can always come back at a later time to see how they're doing.

There are times too I get a phone call the next month to come back and work with them! Be in Demand - Not demanding!

A favorite walking away phrase of mine I use is this, "Maybe it's easier for you to stay with what you've got, rather than make the change?"

See what their reaction is and go from there. Unless you need the practice "Selling" in front of people, I would move on to the next prospect. Choose who "YOU" want to work with Joe. Not the other way around.

Sounds like you did very well... My fingers are crossed for you!

Thanks for the kind words about my Special Report too. Knowing it has helped one person makes the time I put into it worth it.

(Send a "Success Story" in and I'll put it into the next issue with a resource box for you.)

Success and Regards... Mike

Default Thanks Jim... and it gets even better...

These guys own all the Little Caesars Pizza
joints in Flint MI... 21 in all.

Here's where it gets interesting.

They want exclusivity... meaning I don't
sell to other Pizza places in their market.

Hmm...

Each Sunday they purchase an ad on the Flint
Journals Weekly TV Guide. Well let me rephrase
that... they buy the WHOLE BACK COVER and one
quarter of the FRONT COVER! Only sharing the
spotlight with some celeb (last week: Carol
O'Connor).

So here's what I proposed:

I'd grant them exclusive rights to their
market IF they advertised thier online
sign-up form for eClub Rewards in their
advertising.

So within the next few weeks our name will
be in lights.

Hmm... I'm thinkin' nice exposure, good
credibility, and probably the makings
for a local Press Release.

I'm on cloud nine.

Thanks Jim for your support and encouragement.

Excuse me while I get to work. Lots to do. ;o)

I'll keep ya posted.

Cheers.
