Default Does this make sense the way I've written it?

Not really asking if you agree with the content (but, if you want to tell me your thoughts on that too, that's cool).

What I'm really wondering is, have I made my point clearly? Does it make sense?...

Let me know.

Thanks!

Yes, it does BUT not until you are further into the article than most folks will bother to go.

What needs to be done here is to tighten up your first half of the article to eliminate a lot of the confusing martER/marketEE usage (the terms are too similar and thusly confusing) and get right to the jist of the message. If the first half of the article matched the second half in simplicity and impact, you'd have a dynamite article.

Hope this is helpful.

I liked your article and agree with it wholeheartedly.

Reading your article reminded me of an ancient proverb: "There is nothing new under the sun."

It is quite amazing, how people buy into all the NEW marketing ideas and love to denounce the old ways. It's the old ways that are generating billions and billions of dollars everyday, even to this very minute.

When I explain marketing to young people, they immediately get turned off. They want it easy. What I've witnessed over the years is the younger generation thinking that old style marketing doesn't work.

What they don't stop and realize is that what they eat, drink, wear, listen to, and look at, is simple old style marketing that got them to buy or try.

The online marketing gurus want the UNSUSPECTING viewers to think the old ways are dead, but in reality they themselves are using old style marketing to get their message out.

Example: Long web page copy. That style comes from the same long page information articles seen as far back as the early 1900's newspapers or information letters sent out via USPS.

Example: Weekly or monthly email newsletters are no different then having a paperboy deliver to your door the newspaper. He can either bring you a daily edition or the Sunday edition.

Example: Niche Marketing is just a fancy way of saying, "I'm an electrician", "I'm a building contractor", "I'm a salesman".

If the old ways are not as effective as they use to be then why use them?

As you can see the whole idea of this new marketing or permission marketing is none other than old style marketing getting you to believe there is an easier way to market to people.

People don't change. They are not going to buy until they are ready to buy. If your message strikes them at the right moment then out comes their wallet.

Here is a great example of old style marketing success. Last night on The Apprentice, the team with the sloppy presentation out sold the team with the polished presentation.

If I were an online guru I would have put my money on the Gene Simmons team. But I'm not a polished marketer. I'm old school and when I saw what I had to work with, I would have done the same thing. Start talking and interacting with the public.

Thanks for agreeing! I could go on and on with this topic. I think, if you have the right marketing INSTINCTS (have your marketing head screwed on straight), you can see what's right + wrong immediately. Problem is, those instincts can lead you to conclusions that are 'distasteful.'

Many times I've asked small biz owners why they don't try telemarketing (b2b) -- they look at me like I have 3 heads! "Oh no, we couldn't do THAT!" I try to explain that telemarketing can often be the shortest distance between you and more customers.

It's partially political correctness spilling over into marketing. Send out a Kennedy-style sequential direct mail compaign, at the owner of the company starts 'worrying' about what the 98% of the recipients who throw the letter away will think of his company (!!) -- instead of rejoicing over getting the OTHER 2% to be CUSTOMERS!

It's crazy.

It's 100 times EASIER to believe that these 'modern' LYING-IN-WAIT marketing methods (search engine, pay per click, etc.) will bring in the same # of customers as good old-fashioned INTRUSIVE advertising.

As people get wise to this (via ROI), there will be a shift towards MORE intrusive advertising. Now, when you go to a news video online, it is held HOSTAGE by a good old-fashioned TV ***ADVERTISEMENT*** -- which is how it SHOULD be!

More intrusive = more effective.

People throw rotten eggs at me when I say that --- but it's TRUE!

Hi TW,

First, great article! I think what you say is right...

On "Marketer/Marketee" - I think Sandi has a good comment... Perhaps you could use "Marketer/Prospect" or "Marketer/Customer"... That might be clearer (and the terms sound less similar to each other)...

Thanks, by the way, for sharing your article...
