Default Newspaper article about "The Promotional Guy". Need advice.

Greetings Group,

The local newspaper here did a write up on my promotional business, "The Promotional Guy".

Since that article broke yesterday, I have had more than one person stop me and say they saw my picture in the paper and read about my business.

Making sure to have one of my own self-promotionals on hand, I'd pull one out and say, "Here's my business card!" Got some chuckles with that, and a possible future customer.

Seeing that my business is fresh on people's minds, I want to capitalize on this current awareness. I've got the article. Need some ideas on how to use that article locally, regionally and nationally.

Woody, my response would be: "Thanks for telling me you saw it. What did you think about it?" Never miss an opportunity to get feedback from a potential customer. LOL Then you can produce the card with "If I can be of help to you (or someone you know), here's my card to refer to. Always glad to be of service".

Ideas to capitalize:

Make up a sheet copy and laminate it to have in the office for others to read.
Create a promotional based around 'We're in the news' and send it off to folks on your customer list and offer them some kind of reward or discount offer for coming in etc. I forget just what you do or I could be more specific but it's a general idea.

You can also add it to a portfolio about your company for serious business inquiries.

Ask permission to quote from it (with attribution) in your advertising. It's the courteous thing to do and gives you a chance to personally say thank you. )

Any time you see some other business in town you'd like to get to know better with an article, cut and laminate their article and yours side by side and send it with a caption "Local businesses in the news" or some such. Invite them out for coffee and see how it goes. Network!

Lots more but that'll get you started. Congrats and best wishes!

Hey Woody..

Congrats! BUT.. How about something more than "Here's my business card!"

How about.. "Thanks. Give me a call when you have a few minutes and I'll show you how to promote your business too."

Also, check and see if the paper has a web site, and if the story is there. Maybe you could point to it in your sig file, or a brief PR piece.

Thanks Woody for asking.

Two Ideas:

1. Send a mini-kit to other media in your region with your biosheet, a pitch - and the cutting of this article as a sample.

2. Rent a mailing list of local business owners. Send them one of your pens or calendars or some other sample along with this article - and a letter that introduces you as the local promotional go-to guy.

Then follow up.

Also - could you please reduce the size of your signature? Its 12 lines long! (As big as your post!)

I know there is no rule for signature sizes now... but if we don't act responsibly - a rule will have to be made.

I would say less than 5 lines is good enough.
