Default Website Design - How Do I Get Paid? - Karen Asked

Howdy,

Thanks.

Busy today.

Just got off the phone with a gal I met on a Mommy forum. She is creating
websites for local business owners - near Disneyland in Florida.

How do I get them to pay me? was her Question.

#1 - She had a scooter company owner. (He is going out of business trying
to provide scooters for the handicapped at a cheaper price than Disney.)

I suggested she not TRY to save people who couldn't afford to pay her.

#2 - She met another man who sells the scooter guy batteries. Is doing a
site for him too.

She is selling only on the fact that her sites have a higher SEO ranking.

I suggested she also
create a Lead Generation Freebie.

(A Report that would collect the email and name and address of prospects.
So her clients can SEE the website is doing better than their Yellow Page
ads.)

#3 - Which leads to suggestion THREE.

Only do websites for biz owners already spending 1000's on Non-trackable
yellow pages and websites.

Thanks,
Glenn

P.S. - Question... What else might she include in a FREE website that would
get her prospects to JUMP at a chance to pay her. Hire her?

Default Forget website design. Here's how to REALLY get paid

Hi Glenn,

Everyone and their dog are jostling, clawing, and wringing their hands, whining about the terrible competition for website design business. The website designing business was good maybe four years ago.

Now because college kids are offering a hundred bucks (and sometimes less) to throw up a site for small business owners, there's not enough money in it anymore.

I know. I used to design websites for a living years ago.

Anyone can now go to places like http://www.dreamtemplate.com and for 60 bucks get unlimited downloads of awesome designs.

The college kids are making out like bandits by offering a hundred dollars. But why should you scrape and claw for a hundred dollars when you could easily make $1500. and more per client?

Here's how to clean up with websites for small businesses, and have customers almost throw money at you.

Every small business owner...and I mean EVERY business owner with a website, desperately wants traffic to that site. Sure, he had a site made because everyone else (read that, competitors) also have websites.

But this small business owner is secretly hoping that his website will somehow make him money. You're going to show him that it can.

Your services that you're going to offer this business owner is, traffic. He/she understands that nothing moves until a sale is made. It doesn't matter how pretty a website looks, if there's no traffic, it's as dead as a door nail.

Here's what to do:

Carefully choose the three most influential/prominent business owners in your town. You're going to send them traffic to their website for free...initially. When you do that you can now go to anyone in town and casually say that you were able to increase traffic to so and so bigshot's website by as much as 300 percent.

Do you think they'll listen to you? Of course they will!

But Uncle Brent, how do I quickly get traffic to a website?

Ok grasshopper, here it is.

First know that there are mainly two types of traffic:

The short burst that has a short shelf life, and the long sustained traffic that brings in customers over the long haul.

You're going to PROVE that you know what you're doing by bringing in a short burst over a short period, just enough to get 'ole Influential to sit up and take notice, and for you to be able to use his name.

How to Get a Tsunami of Traffic (at least 3000-4000 Visitors) Within One Hour
================================================== ====

The first thing that you need to do is to create a Twitter account.
Next, create a Wordpress blog with a separate domain name. You can get a cheap domain name registered at http://www.active-domain.com/

Next, install the wp-o-matic plugin to your newly created Wordpress blog.

Next, install another Wordpress plugin called Twitter Poster. You can do a Google for all these plugins, or simply go to the Wordpress site and grab them...they're of course free.

Ok, now for the next three days head over to search.twitter.com and make careful notes of the hot, hot trends. You should also do the same thing over at Google Hot Trends.
http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends

Ok, here's where it gets interesting.

Head on over to Google Blogsearch, and search for those hot topics that you noted at Twitter Search and at Google Hot Trends.

You're going to grab the RSS feed of each of those search results.

Next, copy and paste the web address of each hot rss feed into your blogs wp-autoblog feature.
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en

Result?

You'll end up with having the hottest, most up to date trends on your blog.

Here's the thing...tons of people are going to use the extremely popular twitter real time search feature, locate your tweet, and click over to your site.

Just like that, hey presto you now have a swarm of traffic to your blog.

But Uncle Brent, how does that help Mr./Ms. website owner?

Remember that generic sounding domain name you registered for peanuts? Well just before you implement your traffic strategy, you'll call up the business owner and say you will prove you can get traffic almost out of thin air.

If you can prove that, will he allow you to also do the same for him. If you succeed, fine and dandy, strike a deal. If not, then no harm, no foul.

Show him web stats BEFORE implementing your strategy, and of course show him AFTER you're done a couple of days later.

If you do this simple technique, you'll have all the business you can handle. All you now need to do is to implement solid, long term traffic getting techniques as a consultant for $1500. a pop.

God loves you.

Brent Whinfield.

That doesn't make sense to me. SEO is a slow process. Requires a lot of work. Her sites can't have higher SEO when they're made. Maybe something is amiss here.

Designing websites - there is still money in this. If you chose the right people.

i. If you can deal with bureaucracy, target the fortune 500 companies. They constantly require web work. Get your leg in via smart networking. And you'll get huge projects where you'll have to hire 10-20 people teams per client.

Won't go into detail about this now though... its not for everyone.

ii. Go for people who are just starting out with their business.

a. Rent mailing lists of new businesses. Either from local chamber of commerce. Or from agencies who track the registries of new companies.

b. Joint venture with printers. One of the first things a person does after deciding to start shop is get business cards printed. So joint venture with 3-4 printers and you'll get all the work you can handle.

So - in essence - focus on folks who are just starting out. Or who are already huge. Anything else is usually not that lucrative and requires a lot more effort for the payout.

Thanks Glenn, for your support.

Ankesh, I agree with you regarding corporate accounts. The money is huge, but you have to know what you're doing.

JVing with printers is hot, hot hot! You're right on the money with that idea.

In the old days, I focused on sprucing up existing websites that have fallen on hard times. There are millions of sites that still have 1990s design and technology displayed. I would pick a niche such restaurants, dentists, or wedding photographers.

Then I would choose three blazingly hot templates from sites such as http://www.steves-templates.com/

I'd then customize the template with just the name of the prospect's business, ftp it onto my site, and send a link off to him with a nice sales letter emphasing urgency. The whole thing would take me about 5 minutes of my time.

I made sure that I sent out 10 templates to prospects daily. This is a great way to get business if your prices are reasonable.

Default A Letter to Printers that Pulls 53% in My Tests

Dear Ankesh/Brent,

Thanks.

I agree that her SEO comments don't make sense. But I find when
gathering info - it's best not to object or find fault.

I'll find out more later.

Printers.

Great idea.

Excellent center of influence. One of my customers in Canada had this nifty
sales letter to printers which I've used. (I still use the concept.)

It says something like:

Dear Mr Printer,

Thanks for chatting with me on the phone.

As promised there are 3 - one page Newsletters with your name on top
enclosed in this letter.

IF you send them out with Invoices. Or on top of Printing jobs You will make
more money.

How?

Each Free Ezine contains a world-class Extra Cash Idea for your business
owner clients.

Proven. Tested. Winners all.

But there is a CATCH! This catch makes YOU Extra MOOLAH!

Because all three ideas in the ezines require stamps, paper, envelopes and
PRINTING services!

Take a look.

I'll call to answer any questions.

Thanks,
Glenn Osborn

P.S. - Talking about THANK YOU NOTES reminds me. Here's a link to a
series of Thank You Notes that have grossed millions of dollars for clients.

Dan Kennedy calls this a Continuity program.

Frank Kern and his clients use Spaced - pre-planned emails to PRE-Launch
their best selling programs.

I agree with these two guys. My Series of Thank You Templates is the Most
Profitable thing I've ever done for clients. Myself too. My on-line business
is built on a Thank you note foundation.

But most people write boring/generic Thank You notes.

Default 2 Things I'd do...

1a) Get a Unique, Ego-Centered domain for a "Group" of businesses...similar to a Town Directory with businesses in Alphabetical Order.
(OrlandosBestOnline.com, OrlandosBestDirectory.com) (Available TODAY!)

1b) Then get "Ego" domains for each biz in their Category;
(OrlandosBestPlumbers.com, OrlandosBestDentists.com, OrlandosBest Orthodontists.com, OrlandosBestRoofers.com...etc) (ALL Available NOW!)

2) Get a "Free Website Template" for each category. Plop it onto the site.

3) Contact 5 to 10 biznesses in each Category and tell them to "Go Up and Take A Look. On each site you have the words; "This Site Available for RENT! Email (or phone) me if interested. First one wants it, gets it!

Now....you could make it exclusive to one in each category BUT, Orlando's a big town...so I'd put 2 or 3 in each Category.

Now...by offering something to these businesses that CANNOT be offered to them by "College Kids" or anyone else (A Unique, Powerful DOmain) you can get businesses who already have a website and are happy with it. Give these folks a Single Page with a Link (I call these, "Business Card Sites")

Now...because of the POWER of the Domains (OrlandosBESTPlumbers.com etc) .....each business owner can INSTANTLY understand the strength of their new Domain Name....and will WANT to be part of it.

You can tell each biz you will be promoting the Main Site via each participant's business and via other media.

Now...there's some finer details needed here but, that's the gist of what I think you can do to "Name Your Own Price" and NOT have to be concerned about "college kids" and their "Cheap Sites".

Also...my suggestion on Pricing; Hey! It's Orlando, Florida! It ain't Podunk, Nebraska! So...charge accordingly. I'd go for $1,500 initially for each 3 page website or Business Card Page PLUS....$150/mo.....with a 3 mo minimum ($450) for a total of $1,950 for the first 3 mos.

Holy Schamoly! Just 25 of these and you have $50G's in yer jeans and $3,750 coming in EVERY MONTH! Yahoo!!! Go For It!
